ps, this does require a soldering god, if you cant solder a v3 ps2 without trouble, then dont try this at home.

I solder stuff like this for a living. . .
Not only does it require a "soldering god" as you put it, it also requires a truely good iron, not some $5 piece of crap.
Expect to pay at least $200.00 for a decent iron (more like $400-600)

well so do i, and you certianly dont need a $200 iron for this rolleyes.gif  i work with surface mount components every hour that i work, and i use nothing more than a 50watt wellar iron - the most reliable irons around. And, concidering the boards and components i work with are worth ten times that of any xbox, i can tell you right now that your opinion is rediculous to say the least.

The better you are, the cheaper the Iron you can get away with.

but you can also look at it this way, if you are that good do you really want to be using junky irons

wellars arnt junk. these thinks are rock solid. 50w, temp is controlled by the tip you put in. you want a different temp? put another tip in - its that simple. If you want to switch from soldering wires to fine-pitch i.c's then again, just swap the tip. If i can work all do long with fine-pitch i.c's withouth any problems, then these irons are far from "crappy":)

to add to this point, my boss bought in a load of brand new 80w ersa irons that cost around £150 EACH. It took me a full two days before i went back to my wellar - thats how good they are.

i would recommend the to anyway. I'll be honest i do have a cheap 15w iron at home, but it's far from perfect. I can't stand the damn thing and only use it when i really have to.

so i take it that an xecuter2.1modchip would now work on a v1.3-v1.5 with this modification?

yes (but the wire/connection is really not easy ... make sure someone with lots of experience does it. The D0 via is nothing compared to this).

OK guys, ask and you shall receive, the full tuturial on how its done, confirmed several times in our shop to work 100%. cool.gif

Ive tested this on all models from 1.0-1.5 and it takes our techs only 15-20min from start to finish. when using the correct technique this is a very simple solder join, but must be done with a good iron (i use weller). biggrin.gif

Where abouts in Aus are you located littlejohnny?

That's pretty low guage wire you used, or did you only use one strand of the copper?(I can't tell from the focus tongue.gif)

I just used standard 30awd wire wrap..and after i soldered the wire to the via i used hot glue to keep the wire from moving around..

the first one took a little time but the second only took a couple of mins..

Did you have to prep the 'via' area for soldering?  I looked one of my boxes for grins and the contact point doesn't look exposed. It looks like it's under the green substrate or whatever that is.
