I aborted the process of soldering the LFrame wire.

After scraped off the green I am completely lost and also I exposed more pin then I needed.  Try soldering the wire but don't think I can attach it in my wildest dream, don't want to short it and make my xbox to become my x-xbox.

I think it is definitely worth spending the $40 for the executer chip.

Problem solved there are 2 V1.4 Xboxes
Both Have Focus encoder
Both Have live GND & 3.3V on the LPC bus
but have MCPX chips are quite different
FB9981.1 0332D1 made in Taiwan (no visable L-Frame) Man. date 26-09-03
FC1357.1 0335d1 made in Korea (Visable L-Frame) Man. date 28-09-03

Could this be a  V1.6 or at least a 1.4b

ps, this does require a soldering god, if you cant solder a v3 ps2 without trouble, then dont try this at home.

I solder stuff like this for a living. . .
Not only does it require a "soldering god" as you put it, it also requires a truely good iron, not some $5 piece of crap.
Expect to pay at least $200.00 for a decent iron (more like $400-600)
-nB

well so do i, and you certianly dont need a $200 iron for this rolleyes.gif  i work with surface mount components every hour that i work, and i use nothing more than a 50watt wellar iron - the most reliable irons around. And, concidering the boards and components i work with are worth ten times that of any xbox, i can tell you right now that your opinion is rediculous to say the least.

The better you are, the cheaper the Iron you can get away with.

but you can also look at it this way, if you are that good do you really want to be using junky irons

Thankyou.
I use a Metcal soldering iron, once you use one of these you'll never wanter to use a crappy cheapo ever again.

Lets see a raise of hands who has soldered a 201 pitch SMT resistor by hand with a weller? muhaha.gif

1.6, no.  1.4b maybe.  All it means is that nVidia has two manufacturing and fabrication plants.  M$ simply buys the chip.  Where it comes from is up to nVidia.

One suggestion I picked up from the author of this post was using a copper brush to expose the point and the use of a "circuitworks conductive pen" to enlarge the point and make it an easier point to solder.

wish me luck - I'm goin' in!!!       ph34r.gif

kd4syd

Hey Good Luck!

If you get it working 100%, it'd be great if you could post exactly how you did it (perhaps tutorial-like???hehe)

i.e. what exact brand of conductive pen, how much you used, how much solder, etc...

Using a conductive pen actually makes that point seem a little more realistic but how would you ensure that the solder never comes unstuck?  Or how would you ensure that the conductive ink?! that comes out of the conductive pen stays there?

Once soldered on, would simply using a hot glue gun on the entire "new" solderpoint be enough to keep both the solder there and the conductive ink?

Anyway, GOOD LUCK and let us know how you go. smile.gif

Plagued---It had a a focus chip, yes it was a 1.5.

ubergeek/ozmods  - i agree that this join is for pros and hobbyist only, but if you follow the instructions with a good iron it IS very easy.  Just make sure that you only scrap off the goo from the via  with a syringe tip and use flux to clean, that way if you oversolder then the rest of the vias and tracks are protected by the remainder green goo, this is the SAFEST meathod and should take less than 1min to prep and solder. And yes i also stock LFrame supporting chips for $35 (alladin advance), but really all chips are for pros only, there are "pros and cons" (no pun intended) to every chip on the market, this being no exception. the biggest con to the lframe chips is the bullshit prices for a $5product, a. the crap (personal opinion) extra features cant be disabled (power on/off in leu of switch) b. we have to buy 50-1000 at a time to get a reasonable price........who installs that many?, sorry i forgot you guys are resellers tongue.gif , strick that comment from the record your honour.  Dear Sirs, please this a comunity, dont get cought up in the money making, regards  Littlejonny

Movation - its there, its just hiding under somne green stuff.

kd4sydney - F***n oath on the tiger woods analagy, anybody hwo uses a good iron will agree!!!! way to go man!!  as for the pics, yes a little brurred, ive got better ones coming, just hang tight for now.  beerchug.gif

Everybody else - DOWNLOAD AND READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, THEN POST, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!!!!!!!!!. 90% of the questions here were already answered in the instructions! grr.gif

popcorn and a beer anybody pop.gif  beerchug.gif , lets celebrate romeos discovery and smoke the peace pipe blink.gif

My friend here thinks it's very easy to solder that point as he has never seen the mcpx, could someone please mesure the chip (with the green exterior) and tell me it's dimensions ?
