Nkpatcher 9.0 & 10.0

Ok this shadow C stuff has me a little confused if anyone could helpme out here:

I have a setup like the uxe-complete package (everything is currently stored in C:\fonts) if I set up nkpatcher9/10 in the fonts directory and then shadow my real C: parition where is my dashboard (unleash) going to boot from? C:\fonts (real drive) or the shadow image? Am I also right in thinking I can delete all the modified files from the image file and it will apear as a stock hdd when I FTP in? if anyone could shed some light on it I'd be grateful (If I could go and actually buy another  xbox to test this on I would most likely already have figured this out already but the "shortage" of xboxes here in blighty has scuppered my plans on getting another box for testing stuff :/

Well with the newer versions the author added new features (like the lba48 thing for bigger hdd's) and the new shadow drive feature. To actually upgrade to the latest version just look where your current nkpatcher is booting from (and what file its booting) and compile it then sign with the habibi key (with xbedump)

I'm running into a problem. I've got an nkpatcher 10 compiled to read a shadow image off my C drive which is a normal MS 5960 dash. I also configured it to put the real C as G and then load the dashboard from there. But whenever nkpatcher boots UnleashX from "G", it deletes my config and resets everything to defaults for UnleashX. It's absolutely frustrating me and I have no clue what could cause this. huh.gif

I have a question

Alright, I fully understand the point of shadow c drive (i had to use it yesturday when modding my nephews xbox which he will be unwrapping today.... because without doing so, his topspin/ncaa disc wouldn't boot that came with the xbox)... but, what i do not understand, is why on earth you would need virtual eeprom?

See here.

Ok, I am used to flashing TSOPs, and am VERY new to this. I used the SIN package which I assume uses and older version of NKPatcher?

 The thing is that NKPatcher is now in my FONTS directory, and well I don't understand a bit as to what SIN did and how I could repeat the process by hand if I wanted to.

 Anhow, I MODed an XBOX for my nephew and nieces, all went well with SIN, I got UnleashedX installed, etc.
 The thing is that when I load up Top Spin that came with the XBOX, I get an error 21. I brought the game home to see if it actually worked, and it turned out that it was trying a Live update on the dash...

...since SIN destroys the DASH, it does not work apparently.

 So what I need to know is if this new NKPatcher could fix this problem, and if so, how I would go about updating nkpatcher.

Also what is a virtual C drive and how do I make one?

 P.S. NKPatcher is NO WHERE in the tutorials sections.

@arcus:

Your question is not really posted in the right place and the answer can be found in 100+ threads or so but since it's christmas I will give some basic hints:

- The XBOX will NOT boot without a properly locked hard drive.

- Boot a gamesave into a dashboard with networkaccess and filemanager (my advice: Avalaunch. Normally I would go with UnleashX but the recent versions seem to have some ftp-problems)
- Put configmagic on the xbox (you will probably need to habibi-sign it first)
- Execute configmagic (use filemanager built into dashboard of your choice)
- Press start and select 'Create backup files'
- Restart xbox with gamesave and regain access to ftp by restarting the dashboard.
- Transfer E:\EEPROM BACKUP.* files to your PC (3 files)
- Remove configmagic from xbox
- Grab a copy of XboxHDM (made by Ldots.)
- Create a bootable CD/DVD containing your eeprom (read up on xboxHDM and read it's accompanying tekst-files)
- Boot your PC with the just created CD/DVD containing at least the eeprom file, preferably also all necessary files to boot the xbox in exploited state so you would not need the gamesave-method anymore.
- Format new hdd, maybe transfer new files and lock it.

Edit:

PROBABLY the following will also work: (untested/unverified by me)
- Boot XBOX into gamesave
- Execute configmagic
- Remove current HDD and place new HDD
- Refresh contents of Configmagic
- Lock HDD
- Reboot XBOX using game in tray and starting hacked savegame
- Format HDD
- Transfer files to new HDD

still having problems i would like to know how to modify the config below to allow the games not to reset on eject what should i change

%ifndef CONFIG_INC
%define CONFIG_INC

;;; --------------------------------------------------------------------------
;;; Configuration for nkpatcher
;;; --------------------------------------------------------------------------

;;; Dashboard path

%define DASHBOARD_PATH '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\evoxdash.xbe'

;;; Reset-on-eject behaviour:
;;;
;;; EJECT_FIX = Never reset on eject.
;;; CD_DVD_ALWAYS_ROE = Always reset on eject for CD/DVD loaded XBEs, never
;;;                     reset on eject for hard disk loaded XBEs.
;;;
;;; Default is to never reset on eject for hard disk loaded XBEs, but reset
;;; on eject CD/DVD loaded XBEs based on the ROE flag in the XBE header.

; %define EJECT_FIX
; %define CD_DVD_ALWAYS_ROE

@liteon6x:

What did you just paste here??

If I'm not misstaken:

QUOTE

;;; CD_DVD_ALWAYS_ROE = Always reset on eject for CD/DVD loaded XBEs, never

; %define EJECT_FIX
; %define CD_DVD_ALWAYS_ROE

You just gave the answer to your question within your question  dry.gif :

%define EJECT_FIX
; %define CD_DVD_ALWAYS_ROE

Will cause the XBOX to NEVER reset on eject.

; %define EJECT_FIX
%define CD_DVD_ALWAYS_ROE

Will cause the XBOX to ONLY reset on eject on stuff that was loaded from DVD and not HDD.

You are aware of the fact that you have to assemble nkpatcher and sign it again are you not?

I have a strong feeling you adjusted config.inc assuming nkpatcher on your xbox will pickup this change or that you tossed config.inc on your xbox  dry.gif

Genius! You basically just summarized UDE-UXE rmenhal is the man. His fonts are amazing, and I was never a huge nkpatcher fan, but this v10 is simply incredible. I should have alot of fun experimenting with it.

And thank you for your explanation of the nkpatcher settings. I had the basic understanding of it, but it clarified alot.  I'm still undecided if I'll be giving my future customers actual C partition access or not. Your time is definitely appreciated.

Ah! I have so much work to do on this! But I managed to FUBAR my power supply so I have to wait for a new one to ship in. The suspense is brutal. ((it's pretty funny how I softmodded to avoid soldering, but have soldered more on my xbox lately than anything else. I'll still never give up softmods  cool.gif ))
