Boot into PBL or NKP v7 and then delete it.

QUOTE(pSyCo @ Dec 25 2004, 10:45 AM)
Merry Christmas to all...

I have a question

Alright, I fully understand the point of shadow c drive (i had to use it yesturday when modding my nephews xbox which he will be unwrapping today.... because without doing so, his topspin/ncaa disc wouldn't boot that came with the xbox)... but, what i do not understand, is why on earth you would need virtual eeprom. You can't get on xb-live *period* if you have nkpatcher installed, am I correct? I mean, it's not like you can choose *reboot in orig mode* and hop online with halo 2 .... soooooooo .... what's the point?

I'm not being an ass, i'm really wanting to know.

--Polymira
(Nothing has been changed by this regarding going on XBL; all the known precautions still need to be taken for that eh!)

The primary benefit is that changing settings, via any program that doesn't write directly to the EEPROM, would no longer potentially cause the boot to hang eh. wink.gif

it isnt hidden, your real C is hidden

But you can use pbl to gain access to your real C and update that, but as far As I'm aware, the dash in your virtual C is the main dash that is laoded.

When you loaded pbl, you gained access to your REAL C, so in effect you deleted NKPatcher and everything else on the C.

You NEVER Delete your REAL C.

NKPatcher loads (shadowc.img) if it exists. If it doesnt it needs to be created, there is an app to do it, or you can throw any file you want on there.

I left it in its default path with is
e:\shadowc\shadowc.img

Now I used The Drive Image App to do it, so It made an exact dupe of my C drive.

I tested to make sure it was the shadow by uploading something to the C, then started PBL, and looked at the C and it wasnt there. So I knew it was on my shadow C.

From here, you can setup your real MS Setup.
But Your Other Dashboard is also loaded from here, meaning that REAL C needs

c:\xboxdash.xbe (special update.xbe)
c:\fonts (bert & ernie)
c:\nkpatcher.xbe (or whereever your setup requires this to be)

and then your shadow C can contain

c:\evoxdash.xbe (or whatever nkpatcher.xbe points to load.) & all of its required files
c:\xboxdash.xbe (real xboxdash) & all of its required files
c:\fonts (real fonts)

I recommend leaving your real C in a modded state, just in case something happens to the .img file. If nkpatcher doesnt find the shadow file, it uses the real C to load, so if you deleted the dashboard fromt here, you'd be haten life again.

Get It?

Is there a way to set it up so that with the tray open, you boot into your real hacked C drive, and with it closed you boot into nkpatcher with the shadow C that is a complete unmodified xbox?

The reason I want this is so that when I have a game in my drive on xbox live would it be possible to go on xbox live with the shadow C (completely unmodified) and when the tray is open boot to the UnleashX dash?

Thanks in advance...

The only way to dual boot, would be to use pbl, or a dualboot.xbe, both in this case would cause the retail kernal and/or the retail dash to be not stock, therefor going on LIVE would not be a wise choice.

I have my box set up like that...tray closed is knpatcher 10 with stock c drive, tray open is nkpatcher 7.  I'm pretty sure that you can't go on xbox live even with a stock c drive though because you still have a patched kernel that ms can detect? correct me if I'm wrong, I'm too cheap to pay for live anyways so I'm not really big into that scene.

I did have a few quick questions though...

With the dualboot, if I booted into nkpatcher 7 (no big drive support) would it have the potential to screw up anything on a hard drive that is above 137gigs? Mine is only 120 anyways, but I'd like to know for future reference. So basically if I had a 160 gig hd that I used with nkpatcher 10, would booting into nkpatcher 7 corrupt things on it? Maybe I should just use nkpatcher10/pbl metoo for that setup.

People have been talking about making recovery discs that will boot on a softmodded box, any tips or tuts you can throw at me?

Also, I had a backup of fable that would work fine before I revamped my hd with nkpatcher 10/7 and now it starts but gives me a dirty disc error when I try to load profiles. I think I also cleared out my cache so that may have been it, but figured I'd ask to see if perhaps there were other forces at work with that.

Thanks a lot everyone!
