Microsoft's Origami Project-- Posted by XanTium on February 27 17:57 EST
From next-gen.biz:

Quote

As speculation floats around about a Microsoft handheld games and media device, a web video and a cryptic website indicate something new is coming...

The new gadget, currently called the "Origami Project", was touted on marketing agency DigitalKitchen's website, although the footage seems to have been removed since. Microsoft is one of DigitalKitchen's clients.
The device shown on DigitalKitchen looked like a downsized tablet PC capable of web browsing, GPS functionality, photo editing, messaging and perhaps most notably, gaming; Halo was shown running on the device.

Microsoft apparently launched a website set to reveal details on March 2 at www.origamiproject.com. It doesn't reveal much at all quite yet.
While DigitalKitchen's footage is no longer available, you can view the Origami prototype in staged action by visiting YouTube.

if it plays any pc game at halos spec that would blow the psp out the water for me.

but i dont think it will just play any game, you will probably need a patch or something.

the best part of this device will be the hard drive. (it must have one.)

a hard drive, 3rd party software and better codec support than other devices would really make it gr8.

i know its a little early but has the OS type or spec been released?

It's either a PDA on steroids, or a laptop with a lobotomy.  I'm not sure which.

Wierd, Looks too big to be in competition with the PSP.

Looks more like a Tablet PC with Wifi.
the Guy playing halo was on next to a Wifi sign and had a cordless Keyboard.
But the Guy with the GPS had a diffrent system totally, the button arrangement was totally diffrent.

I'm assuming the "point at" the Media Centre was to show IRDA capabilities.

Kinda interesting, but whatever it is you can almost bet your life its going to interface with the 360 somewhere along the line.

well ladies and gentlemen, this is the future. Us walking aroynd with mini-pcs in our pockets and backpacks. If Miicrosoft is able to pull this off though, god damn, they wouldent even be trying at PSP's market, but allso PDAs, and laptops. Anyway, looks cool.

ya.. i 2 noticed a few different variations in button config's so most likely were looking at a premium and regular version.. hopefully well be able to add codecs and get a good Media Center Prog (other than M$) unless they make it a tad better.. but well see 3 more days till more info

I like the Idea, but it looks like a huge PDA, which is cool and all.  I know Sony 2 years ago successfully made a 9in-ish PDA that ran real windows.  It costed $2000

Now, that reminds me of this.  Now, if it can game, and its that tiny, it can't have the Windows xp or anything like that.  I know from having my PDA for 3 years, It sucked at graphics.  I was able to play the first tomb raider on it, and I think it had graphics comparable to the computer version (the first one)

I don't know about the design, to bulky, and there is no way that could feel comfortable to game on, seriosuly, your wrists would begin to hurt.

Also, its not gonna be cheap, especially if it can game with real games (im gonna guess around $900)
