ugly ugly ugly not even close to being interested, to be honest i can't even find a reason for me to get one, nothing about it really apeals to me, like when i'm on the go i don't wanna carry a laptop for listenin to MP3s, even this device is still to big for that, gaming? like stated looks awkward to hold for gaming, large screen sure but for any sort of portable gaming thats not really neccassary, so also useless to me. then the rest of the computer functions like emailing, websurfing and instant messaging all require internet connect, and round here theres very few Wi-Fi hotspots right now, so then i'm limited to picture editing and typing witch i'd rather be at home with my desktop for both those functions, i dunno i just hate the whole general idea of this "Origami" hell the name doesn't even just hit with "Buy Me!" written all over it, maybe the name will be changing but either way not interested, just wanted to express my hate for the device, I'd just rather have a PSP and a Laptop not some kinda half-breed electronic like that monster PDA

It's either a PDA on steroids, or a laptop with a lobotomy.  I'm not sure which.

I honestly could not have said it better.  And until WiFi spots rule the earth, I have no use for this device.

When I first heard about a portable Xbox, I was in, but this has deterred me. As some1 else said, there was not enough game footage to show that its based around games.

And the controls? How could that thing possibly be able to play games, it looks like it'd be real uncomfortable.

I think i have some pants that have pockets that would hold that.

But then again, there was no real say that this was a portable xbox, this could be a completely different program, and maybe, that was a PC copy of halo, though i've heard the specs needed are huge. There was a prototype of something like this a few years back, called the q-something. Had a p3 1ghz and 30gig hard drive, was a bit smaller too but thats the last i heard of it.

Just remember that as i said, there was no official say that it was anything to do with an xbox

Looks pretty awesome from a PC standpoint. Couldn't care less about gaming capabilities as I was never into the portable craze. If I'm gonna play games, I'll play them on the plasma with xbox360 (and ps3 soon hopefully).  I'm guessing it'll cost a crazy amount though.

Just looking around the site, trying to see if theres anything hidden. Found that there are 2 flash files, one for flash player 8, and one for 6 if u don't have 8, obviously, the 8 version one uses some scripting not available in version 6.

here are the links, but i notice no real difference.

Tried to play around with links trying to find the next 'week' but it doesn't appear to be up yet. What is it with ms and weird teaser sites these days though?

i was just thinking ya know, what the possibilitys could be for this thing if it really was like a mini-laptop. I know in my school, we have mad wifi and if they started to use those insted of laptops for school stuff, it could really do schools who dont have alot of computers good, with it being cheeper than a laptop, but just as good. I donno, i like it, dispite it being big, i like the idea of having a portable compy in my bag. Just gotta worry about people stealing it lol  ph34r.gif .

Thinking back to when the first rumors and solid facts of MS's Tablet PC OS/Hardware was going around a few years ago... The system in the video does everything MS says the Tablet PC would do plus a few extra things. (Last gen 3d gaming and built in GPS?)

This REALLY seems like a Tablet PC 2.0 type thing to me.

Email, Internet, quick notes (hand written or converted to typed text), photo editing, mp3 playing, video streaming and basic gaming can all be done with any Tablet PC currently on the market. Plus third party software support. (pretty much every XP program will run. If program can handle the stylus as the only input or not is usually the question)

Tablet PCs can (and have been) hooked into USB GPS devices as well.

It looks like this product will streamline things a bit more and beef up the gaming ability a bit.

The bluetooth theory mentioned earlier (Cellphone and camera connections) is probibly true. But you can order some tablet PCs with bluetooth already. MS will probibly require be in the hardware with this new product.

One thing that worries me... I saw no discs. That is no CD/DVD/HD-DVD/BlueRay/etc drive of any kind. This is already a major problem with most every tablet PC on the market IMO. (a few 'convertables' have internal drives) I for one wouldnt want such a powerful and useful tool with me at all times and then be required to lug a USB DVD drive if I want to watch a movie that isnt ripped or get data from a disc a client/friend/etc just gave me.

Lets also remember that the price of the average tablet PC usually higher (1,400-2,300USD) than an average notebook (700-1,500USD) The average notebook usually has a more powerful processor, more memory, larger display, larger HDD, Optical drive, etc... The main difference is the 'touch screen' and OS.

I doubt MS would release a new product that does everything a tablet PC can do only better plus more for a price that is less than the product it would be replacing. So I wouldnt expect these to be less than 2,000 USD when they are released. That is unless they are even more of a stripped down notebook than the current gen Tablet PC.

Just so you know I'm not completely talking out of my ass... I have built/repaired/tested tablet PCs and convertables for a large international corporation.  One who's name begins with H and P.

Just my two cents.

While Origami is a concept we've been working on with partners, please know that the video seen on Digital Kitchen's Web site is a year old and represents our initial exploration into this form factor, including possible uses and scenarios," a MS spokesman said.

That source is from http://today.reuters...ryID=nN27504760

I guess that means the device probably won't do even 50% of the things in the video and probably look 10x worse  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

yeah, it's def too big to be a portable gamer or pda, and i can't see it being a replacement for laptop unless it has serious power.  i'd still get it though if it's cheaper than a laptop.  it's like an extension of a desktop or remote.  i can use that.

p.s. is the gpx2 the only handheld with a analog joystick?
