I Flashed A $400.00 Dvd Player!
« on: April 24, 2008, 11:09:00 PM »

Below are the steps that was performed:

Flashed my MS25 using xtreme 5.3 - mtkflash - ich7 - usb flash drive.
1. mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin = ok! (saved orig.bin to multiple computers)
2. reboot windows.
3. kdx1.5 load orig.bin, copy key.
4. kdx1.5 load xtremefw.bin, paste key.
5. file save as modified.bin. (saved this file too in multiple computers)
6. usb reboot.
7. mtkflash w /m modified.bin. (banks 1-4 reports 100% ok!)
8. everything appeared to be a good flash. smile.gif

Result: backup games unreadable,(back ups are 100% good and plays on flashed benq/hitachi perfectly. Insert factory movie DVD and plays!  uhh.gif

Hooked back up to computer to attempt re-flash.
1. Drive is recognized in BIOS. smile.gif
2. mtkflash w /m orig.bin
3. choose drive ich6 pri: 1
4. Hangs after executing!  sad.gif

Hangs after executing all bat commands. Tried MTKFLASH and Iprep101 with same results. I did save the orig.bat file prior to flashing and have copies.

Question: Is my drive bricked? Is there a way to reverse/fix this? Any help to fix this would be xtremely appreciated.

The hacked firmware has firmguard and you need to use the 10 sec trick og enable 0800 disk (google xbox hacking for dummies , no im not trying to be rude its the real file wink.gif if you have the original key then you are good.

Just remember
nr 1 - you need to have a sata card with a via chipset for the 10 sec trick to work
nr 2- make backups of the orig.bin not hacked bin, just in case the key extraction or injection was bad
nr 3 - check if you orig.bin actually has a right key and not just a bunch of F's.  (should have done that before you flashed wink.gif

As long as you have a backup of your original firmware you are not totally screwed.

Mistake #1

Not verifying the key and dump was valid sad.gif

You could have backed it up 100 times, it wouldnt matter if its not a valid dump.

Thanks to all for your replies.

How do I flash orig, bin back onto my drive? As stated before drive hangs after executing any and all bat commands. Tried MTKFLASH and Iprep101 with same results. Immediately after choosing drive pri: 1 computer hangs.

Prior to flash drive executed bat commands without hanging.

Common atleast read the ansvers we already gave you. Had all the information in them

"The hacked firmware has firmguard and you need to use the 10 sec trick og enable 0800 disk "

But check if you have a valid key in orig.bin
If the dump was currupt then you cant do anything so you just check that first

I am not 100% certain if dump was valid as you were correct stating my #1 mistake was no validating orig.bin dump. I'm a NOOB to FW hacking but I did read topics and tutorials for seveal weeks before attempting this. There is a lot of information on this topic and is hard to decifer which tutorials, posts, ect. to follow or are accurate and applicable. uhh.gif It's a hit/miss trial/error and I missed and I error'd! biggrin.gif

Typed:
mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin
Choose drive:
ICH6 master/slave pri: 1

Reading 100% complete ok! (saved orig.bin file on usb flash drive in other locations)

Question:
1. With the steps I performed above, what is the probability that my original fw/key was not read/backed up correctly?
2. How would I know if this is a good backup now since the drive has been flashed with bad key?

Mistake #1: Should have validated orig.bin with firmtool! sad.gif (Now I know!)
Mistake #2: Should not have used KDX1.5 method to insert key. sad.gif
Opened KDX1.5 load orig.bin, highlight key, right click copy key.
(I have read more on this method and know now this is a very unreliable and the worst method to insert key)
KDX1.5 load xtremefw.bin, highlight key, right click paste key, save file as modified.bin, copy to usb drive.
reboot usb drive.

Typed:
mtkflash w /m modified.bin
Choose drive:
ICH6 master/slave pri: 1 (point of no return!) ohmy.gif

Question: What is the most stable/accurate method of inserting key to prevent this from happening?

Any insights or suggestions restoring my drive back to factory settings is greatly appreciated!

Oggyuk & meggaman22,

Thanks to both of you for your replies and knowledge. Please don't think I have not been following up on your information and waiting/bugging you to reply to my problem without devoting time to research your leads. I have been following up on the 0800 method and looking into the 10 sec trick to get my drive to stop hanging so I can hopefully revive my drive. I have also been reading up on how to verify good orig.bin dump. I am asking lots of NOOB questions as I do not wish to make any more mistakes.

At any rate you guys have been great helping me out with this and is much appreciated! biggrin.gif

Ok, open the firmware dump in firmware toolbox, see if that sees it as valid and displays a drive key containing no multiple FF or 00 bytes.

If it reports as a Samsung, has a valid drive key etc.... backit up 10 x

Then post back.

Oggyuk,

I have opened firmware toolbox and opened orig.bin:

ROM Version: Samsung TSH943A-ms25
ROM Size 256 KB

Key Information: 088BD42B7D671CBED5270CF5561FD182

Saved in 10x places.

Does not have multiple FF or 00.

I recall when I inserted key using KDX1.5 the modified key had multiple FF's and 00's! My error's are becoming more apparently clear. I hope that I didn't screw up beyond recovery... blink.gif

BTW, I have tried the following since last post.

enable0800:
1. Burned enable0800 ISO using CD Clone on DVD-DL.
2. Plug SATA cable from DVD drive to PC. Power cable drive still connected to Xbox 360
3. Usb Boot with mtkflash utility to dos.
4. Power on Xbox 360, drive is recognized in BIOS.
6. Insert Enable0800 disc into drive and wait 10 seconds then eject disc.
7. Choose drive ich6 pri: 1
8. Hangs after executing! sad.gif

Immediately hangs after executing all bat commands. Tried various combinations of the above i.e., wait 3 sec, 5 sec, 15 sec, ect. No Joy!  sad.gif

10 Second Trick:
1. Usb Boot with mtkflash utility to dos.
2. Power on 360 and wait few sec.
3. Enter the mtkflash command.
4. Power off 360.
5. Choose xtreme drive pri:1.
6. Wait 10 sec and power on 360.
7. Hangs after powering on 360. sad.gif

Immediately hangs after powering on 360. Tried various combinations of the above i.e., wait 3 sec, 5 sec, 15 sec, ect. No Joy!  sad.gif

Currently looking into -PK-'s post on fussy VIA chipsets, how ever he is describing fix using Iprep.
