I am faced with the same problem only that I am left without the orignial firmware and an invalid key. I am still able to boot into Xbox and got something like X:AFA9-8BB3-D318-7FFB from the console's system properties. Is this they key? If so, perhaps I can code it into a bin file and flash my drive and hopefully restore it.

That code has nothing to do with the drive key.

If you do not hack a valid backup of the drive key you will need to replace the console.

Trust me there is not way around this.

I have given up. Should have read more before I do any flashing and it was my mistake assuming I can restore it with a 'default' firmware. Not knowing that there was key coded in (the drive) and the kind people here actually take an effort to write a program to copy the keys. Guess my Xbox is bricked, and good only as a media center extender. Thanks to all people here who responded.

Sorry for your loss.

I wish there was a better way to strive to people how important their drive key is that is in the firmware.

But sometimes lessons learnt can be expensive but at least you now know how important this key is and I am sure you won’t make the same mistake twice.
