sad.gif, got a few replies but not like this.

Anyway, I just got refurbed unit from EB here on east coast, by its date of 2002-05-06 I think it is a version 1.0.

I been asking if I want to try to get a 1.1 and have received mixxed answers. From what I can tell I should try to get a 1.1 to make my chances of using a burned cf-r work rather than hoping a cd-rw will work. (in other words, hope i get the 1.1 with samsung drive)

I have no lot or mfg location as I can't open the box.

well guess I have to learn to format my questions better, been asking about this for last 24 hours sad.gif, got a few replies but not like this.

Just go to the mainpage of xbox-scene.com and look through the versions link at top.  From reading the boards, most Samsung Xboxes were made between October and Late November 2002 and is made in China

I noticed that some people had samsung boxes made in August but it was made in Mexico.  The thing is try to make sure your Xbox is made after August.  That will be like 70% (guess) that it is NOT a V1.0.

I got my xbox used, not refurbised from gamestop local store.  Refurb units has the date covered up with a different sticker.  But its mostly luck so shop around.

There is a way to see what drive you have.  Spend a couple of thousand dollars and go and buy a little scope which docotrs thread down your throat to look into your stomach for ulcers and other nasties, or just grab hold of your balls and rip that puppy apart and viod that warrenty.   I strongly recommend option 2.  LOL.

Ah you meant box as in box the "xbox" came in....that was unclear :-)

That would be a good trick if you could figure it out!

Heh sorry, I ment box as in the packaging box.  I did my assumptions from the date, manufactuer, etc. and I lucked out.

But I think there are really clues out there that will allow you to pick the right xbox version.  There are a series of info that you need to follow, though I dont know 100% yet.  But you need to consider the following:

1) Date (after 8/2002, before 12/2002?)
2) Lot No. ( mine was 0246, maybe the larger numbers are the later productions, i.e. no samsung dvds)
3) Country (Mostly China, but one person said theirs was made in Mexico)

Depends, sometimes nothing, but samsung reportedly has the best laser of the three and seems to provide the best luck with various recordable discs.    Read this: http://forums.xbox-s...ST&f=23&t=17216

Jayda..you're so cool can i be you for a day.
Jman - The simplist explanation is that it's good business.....they haven't changed anything, they just use more than one company for supplying.

Can it be determined from the serial number?  Not the first bit, the last 5 digits bit.
