tried allxboxskins.com or anotheruselesswebsite or any of the ftp's in the pinned topic?  i know it exists.

its currently a little difficult for skinners to make widescreen skins accurately.   Right now we have to distort a widescreen image to 640x480 and make sure we get the pixel placements close enough to work for both.

which ... MXM Skinnner would be awesome with widescreen mode.

Interesting idea...

I will try widescreen support

However, I need to know:

What is the aspect ratio / pixel resolution for widescreen TV's?

And can you explain this in more detail?

Since I don't have a widescreen TV I can't test it myself

ive thought of this many a time.  The following is the config options for XBMP.

NTSC  720x480  @  4:3
NTSC  720x480  @ 16:9
PAL   720x576  @  4:3
PAL   720x576  @ 16:9
HDTV 1280x720  @ 16:9
HDTV 1920x1080 @ 16:9

Were should the standard be?  should there be one? or should every freakin mode be able to be specified in the skin.xml as it is in the xbmp skin.xml?

It could lead tomore headache for the skinnner, but ultimate satisfaction for everyone.  The key here is not where the skinners want it.. but where BJ can and will take it.

For now, for testing, i would go with the NTSC  720x480  @ 16:9, only because its a similar base for all the resolutions.  How it is implemented needs to be well thought out in advance though, in case all resolutions may one day be fully supported.

Well, if my Tip Jar had enough to invest in a widescreen HDTV (no need for plasma, 50" 1080i projection will work), I'd definitely make support for those resolutions my highest priority.  rolleyes.gif

Well I can't get you the TV but I was able to send you $20.00.  Please consider the 16:9 support.  Even if you can't make it a priority, you deserve the tip.
Thanks

Thanks wink.gif

I am going to include support.... I'm currently rewriting chunks of MXM to clean up a few things. I'll be looking at the initialization and screen resolution as part of the effort.

Can't do much testing on the high res stuff... my big screen is a 'plain ol' regular TV' and my ATi TV Wonder doesn't support HDTV.

Maybe there's an HDTV compatible capture card?

you knwo, actually there is.. i need to remember where i saw it before.  and im not sure what inputs it has.  It was more a signal recieve card for the pc.   might be worth looking in to though.  I will let you know what i find out.

If they arent too much, i would get one myself...if just for the xbox and mxm skins.

Here is a better one for you BJ! No need for a HDTV set. Just use your monitor....  wink.gif

KD-XB for $69

It supports 480p, 720p, and 1080i... Look around you might find a better deal. This is one of the ones I saw in a quick search on yahoo...

If theres hdtv/widescreen support in the next release of MXM, I have my donation $ ready as well BJ!  beerchug.gif

Hell I'll donate regardless but I still want 16:9 support...  tongue.gif

Hrmm.. it looks like the exact same thing as the third link i provided...but different model number and definitely a different price.

I wonder if there is a flaw with this version, or if the newer model just provides a better image/resolution handling?

the dual monitor support on these are nice too. smile.gif
