sounds like you fried the AV chip (green/orange flashing LED means no AV pack is plugged in)

best bet will be to pick up a new xbox

as for the PSU, which connection are you referring to? from the PSU to the motherboard? if so it sounds like you have a 1.0 or 1.1, its somewhat tricky to get out, you have to pull the catch away and pry the plug up[, i usually have to do it one side at a time

I soft modded an xbox succesfully and then managed to destroy it.  (read past posts)
Want to try hard modding
Bought duox2
The physical installation of it seems simple

Following its installation (physically)
What is best tutorial to do the rest.
Does the version 2 duox2 blue need flashing up and beyond what it comes with and why?
If I buy another xbox off ebay and it happens to be version 1.6 (no seller seems to know version) will my chip still work?

Best to all of you and thanks blink.gif

Like everyone in the forum says and Now I also believe the following is true.

If you have a flashing orange light
If you see no solder splash or burnt components
If your heat sink is not hot

Then if you are a newbe then you need another board.
I did my best to prove the experts wrong and save my board.  I even mod chipped it thinking i could bypass the "problem".

Learn from my experience.  Listen to the experts on the panel

eBay allows you to ask questions of sellers prior to buying. While the version number might require more knowledge/effort then some are willing to put in, you could instead just ask for serial numbers, or the last five digits at least. These should allow you to take a fair guess, as supposedly no 1.6 consoles were made prior to '04.

Threads merged; you don't need so many for what boils down to the same issue.

It's a 1.6 - see this table. It will softmod quite happily. If you want to fit a chip that's a bit more work - you need to solder the LPC rebuild board that came with your chip, or solder a few wires to reconnect the LPC if you don't have an LPC rebuild board.

But I am leaning toward hard modding because I want a bigger HD.
You can install a bigger HD with a softmod as well - start here.

You can use ConfigMagic to pull an EEPROM backup once the console is booting again (it stores them on the root of the E partition). If using a virtual EEPROM, you may need to disable it first.

That's one of the reasons you should use Krayzie 1.1.1 instead of any other gamesave softmod (like the SID 2 your tutorial recommends) - Krayzie walks you through the process of taking an eeprom backup as part of the installation, with no other tools required. All you have to do is FTP the backup to your PC. Krayzie also gives you a far better and more stable softmod, one which is far less prone to accidental overwriting.

Can Krazie be used with splinter cell or do I need james bond?

Either. MechAssault is also an option.

How does one get rid of virtual eeprom.

Follow the link in my previous post and read what's there.

Now a real naive question:  Is this advice just for soft modding.

What advice? The stuff about virtual EEPROMs only applies to certain softmods, if that's what you mean.

Just FTP Evox to your Xbox, and run it. It doesn't need to be in ISO form, or XISO, you just need the evox.xbe file and a suitable evox.ini - the .ini with the standard Evox download will work. Or you can use Config Magic to backup the eeprom, again transferred to your Xbox via FTP.

If you softmod you need the eeprom as an insurance policy. If you chip your Xbox it is less essential, but still a good idea.

You are overthinking this in advance of actually doing the mod, because if you had the Xbox working in front of you it would become much clearer. Use FTP or the UnleashX file manager to create a folder (E:\Dashboards\Evox\ would seem sensible), then FTP evox.xbe and evox.ini into that folder, and run evox.xbe from the Unleashx file manager. You do exactly the same for Config Magic.

To be able to FTP to the xbox you have to fit the chip, run FlashBIOS (comes on the chip) and use it to flash a working BIOS to the other bank on the chip (for you with a 1.6 Xbox and a DuoX2 that would be X2.5035_1.6 or Evox M8+ 1.6), then use AID to set up your Xbox and install UnleashX.

Fit the chip. You don't care about the MS Dash, and you can't install the hacked dash until the Xbox is modded.
