How To Enable High Definition...?
« on: July 26, 2004, 09:28:00 AM »

I went into the MS dashboard and the only video setting that I saw that applied is the 16:9 Widescreen setting.  Am I missing something?  How do I enable 720p and 1080i and how can I tell which resolution is being used?

Thanks a bunch,
Jason.  <

Well, just to make sure, you are using the MS or 3rd party Hi Def pack?  Those options are only available if you have the hi def pack plugged in.   <

What exactly is the High Definition Pack, does it allow a higher resolution? Is it software or physical hardware?  <

I have the MS HD pack, but when I plug the pack into my xbox, I get a fuzzy picture on my HDTV.  I tried the 720p and 1080i connections, but all I get is a scrambled picture.  How do I enable the HD settings if I cannot view the picture?

Thanks again,
Jason.  <

Check that your component inputs support 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. On some Samsung DLPs (I think the HLN series) they only support some resolutions so that maybe why you are getting a jumbled image on the dashboard.  <

Not sure about your TV but on mine, only certain inputs support HDTV.

Additionally, I'm sure you know this but I'll mention it for reference, you need a NTSC xbox - or have used the video switcher util to switch to NTSC mode.

PS, I can/have switched to the 480p, 720p & 1080i modes on XBMC settings screen without problem - however, on my older plasma, the 720p & 1080i modes would be garbled - it didn't support them - garbled screen is a good sign it is not supported or you are using wrong inputs.

My TV: Hitachi 42pd5200
Input: Component (AV1)
XBOX: Pal V1 - set to NTSC (with HDTV enabled in dash)
XBMC Resolution set: 720p
Screen Quality: Fantastic!

Hope this helps.  <

Just so everyone knows, I had to hook up the Micro$oft HD pack and then hook the component cables to the 480p input on my tv.  I then went into the MS dashboard and enabled the HD settings.  I then moved the cable to the 720p/1080i input and it worked.  If I just connected the cable to the 720p/1080i cable to start with, I would get no video signal.

FYI.  <

I have the Samsung DLP myself and the thing about the component inputs is that only comp 1 will accept a 480i signal.  Comp 2 $ 3 will accept only 480p, 720p and 1080i.  I have my xbox hooked up to comp2 with the HD setting enabled from the M$ dash and when I first turn it on it says unsupported mode (since the flubber is 480i) and then my dash will come up (since it is 720p)  <

Hi fellas, I have a similar problem.

I bought a Vdigi VGA transcoder and managed to enable high def modes in xbox dash, however XBMC is my primary dash and it isn't working for me.

only way I can even see XBMC is if I swap back to composite cable, but I can't see any settings to enable high def in XBMC settings.

I can play games fine, it's just XBMC.

can someone tell me how to enable high def in XBMC?
thanks!

Settings - Appearance - Look and Feel - Resolution.  Did you try this?
