E71 Before Jtag
« on: January 28, 2010, 05:46:00 PM »

Hello everyone,

I have a question about E71 error. I was able to boot up to the dashboard once and was able to look at the system's info but I get E71 errors quite often. It has a kernal of below 8xxx. I was wondering if I could dump the nand and flash to XBR, would that fix the E71 error? I figured that since it has a bad update, I may get a bad nand dump but a flash of XBR might solve the E71 errors.

I didn't do anything yet. I haven't dumped or started Any jtag soldering. Could a dump and flash to xbr solve the e71?

I haven't even the xclamp replacement or even opened it. I startup the 360 and e71 pops up before the dashboard appears

Yeah I did that and it still freezes at the Xbox 360 startup screen. I already soldered the jtag points and LPT cable but I am afraid of a bad nand dump. Would I cause more damage if I dumped and flashed XBR if there is an E71 error?

Just answered in your thread in Newbie chat - but dump the NAND and see if it's ok in Degraded. If it is ok have a look at my other reply.

well no one can realy give you a good answer if they dont know why it is the way it is

but i would say the kv is fine on it and if you flash xbr with it it should work as the last guy said check it in degraded first

but what have you got to lose in not doing the hack

I've fixed an xbox i got from ebay that had E71.

There is NO documentation for this anymore so I had to experiment for myself.
I was able to dump the nand on the xbox. I checked the CB to see if it was jtaggable and extracted the rawconfig and keyvault or whatever.
Injected them into XBR, jtagged and flashed, and voila. No more E71.

tl;dr Flashing an xbox will fix E71 assuming that you can get the two key files from the original nand.

I don't know what happens if the two key files are corrupt as well. You're probably SOL in that case.
