Toca Race Driver 3 (v8 Supercars 3)
« Reply #315 on: May 06, 2007, 01:45:00 AM »

I know this thread is gettin pretty old now but i'll take a shot.

I bought V8 Supercars 3 (PAL) a couple weeks ago now and i like to make backups of my game before my little brother scratches them on me (he's already ruined NFSU and Halo 2). Being the most fantastic racing game i've ever played I don't wanna lose this one.

Not being able to back it up to my HDD is fine but there must be a way of backing it up to DVD without requiring the 6.7GB HDD space or backing it up so that it still appears to be a 6.7GB disc to the xbox.

I've read all the pages in the thread, I think, and can't find my solution. I'm not a complete NOOB as i'm capable of backing up all my own discs (except this one) but laymans terms would help.

I have a softmodded xbox (I didn't do it), a stock xbox hard drive, dvd2xbox 0.4.9 (I have 0.7.8 but can't get it to work) and I usually use CloneXB v2.3 Beta to create my ISO's after i've flashFXP'd them to my PC.

Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

If you do not have a large enough hard drive to be able to use ISO ripper then get the latest version of dvd2xbox, use the iso ripper and rip directly to the samba share. Using this method those with stock drives can rip iso from larger games.

Or FTP into D:\ and copy the files to PC hard drive.
Or use CloneXB.

I've had not the time to read the entire thread,

but the use of isoripper to play the ISO from hdd doesn't work with my softmodded XBox,

my softmod: Softmod Installer Deluxe 5.01 (SID),
and I've installed dual boot XBMC dashboard (MS dash when turned on by eject)
with Auto Installer Deluxe 4.12 (AID),

the ripping goes fine, the files are there,
but when it tries to load it just goes back to XBMC dash...
I've tried it with a Crystal v1.6 XBox which has a Philips DVD-drive that reads all media (cdr, dvd-+r, dvd+-rw)
and a v1.0 XBox with a Thomson drive, both same result...

also, DVD2Xbox also has an ISO ripper mode (if you press yellow Y you can switch normal and ISO mode),
but gives same result, the game does not load, just goes back to XBMC dash after some seconds?!
but why is everyone making all this grr.gif fuzz grr.gif about isoripper out of driveimageutils-v1.0.1 if DVD2Xbox has also an isoripper in it? which has an interface so you can see the progress all the way muhaha.gif !

is that caused by the fact it's not nkpatcher or ndure softmod?
or because it's a dual boot softmod so the XBMC dashboard is on the E partition (and not on C), or because it mounts a virtual C for the softmod?

what is actually the latest updated softmod?

I just go with SID5.01 since that's still bundled with latest updated AID4.12 (October 2007),

anyone have a clue or info about the difference in softmods?

thanks in advance,

Regards &
take care!

the XBEPatcher is a simple tool to help you play your
original xbox games from the HD even when the game has long filenames.

          REVISIONS :

              0.3 : NTSC MTX support
0.2 : MTX Mototrax specific patching
              0.1 : Generic patching

HOWTO :

to use it make a CLEAN ftp of the game from the D: drive of your
xbox to the PC HD , then copy the  XBEPatcher.exe  into the game
directory that you created on your PC HD and from an MS-DOS shell
run the XBEPatcher using the following options :

XBEPatcher -mtx         : patch MTX Mototrax PAL version

XBEPatcher -mtx_ntsc    : patch MTX Mototrax NTSC version

XBEPatcher              : with no option will try a generic patch (BETA)
< USE ONLY IF YOU ARE BETA TESTING >

once patched you can delete the file "default.xbe.bak" (is the not
patched original file) and ftp all the game back to your xbox HD.

if used without any special commands (so just run the .exe),
it renames the 5 files that have too long filenames and patches the default.xbe,
those 5 long files are now:

01566257402957006257349845861827402934(null)
etc. (so each time made shorter with at end (null))

I've tried it, did not work, I notice that the end of the files when ftp'ed back to the hdd end with (null
grr.gif so that means the XBEPatcher still generates too long filenames...

no luck there, don't understand why the patcher still makes too long filenames, or maybe it's something else and the end (null) does not matter at all, don't know...

if you use command XBEPatcher -mtx, nothing happens (I have the UK PAL version)...

maybe anyone knows more about this?

I've tried isoripper with other game (which works if copied in file mode with DVD2Xbox),
also does not work from hdd,
also tried the isoripper of DVD2Xbox with other game (that also works in file mode),
still no luck...

I guess my softmod doesn't support iso's from hdd?

regards!

this game works fine from HDD
but you must be using a NKPatcher softmod with the virtual CDRom enabled (kingroach's NDURE 3.1 is enabled by default)
you must rip the game using driveimageutils (other games can be riped with DVD2XBOX but not this one)
and use attach.xbe to mount it (renamed to default.xbe)

Race_Driver_3-434d0050.part1.iso  (4.19GB)
Race_Driver_3-434d0050.part2.iso  (2.67GB)

yup, installed Kingroachs Ndure installer & now it works fine!

but I'm going to extract the iso and make an iso of the files with Qwix,
because the ISO made by isoripper is 4gb (the 1st part which is only needed for the game),
while the ISO made by Qwix is only 3gb... (tried the ISO made by Qwix (created directly from DVD-drive),
but that ISO didn't work... it boots, but after I select or make profile I get black screen and it stays like that...

thanks a lot for mentioning, very much appreciated,

take care &
kind regards!
