Xbox Needs Service
« on: August 03, 2004, 03:58:00 PM »

I got my xbox modded about 2 weeks ago, it was working perfect up until today. I boot it up and it plays the normal MS video and then says "Xbox needs service" with a 05 at the top. I've done a bit of searching on this and found that code 5 is my hdd isn't locked, but i couldn't find out how to fix it. I know nothing about this stuff, I just paid my friends cousin to do it. Please could someone help me fix this or I might have to kill that kid that modded it.

Edit: This happens both when I boot it up enabled and disabled.

Your problem is that the modchip is always disabled - you are booting the retail MS bios from the motherboard and have an unlocked HD (causing the error 5).

Without knowing the details of how it is modded, I would guess that the D0 wire has become disconnected (this is normally grounded when the modchip is enabled, otherwise the retail bios boots).
