Need Help

I have the older firmware still with other os
and I have an Iphone 3g jailbroken and psp modded not sure which i could use to mod can someone please point me in the direction of a tutorial or maybe the files to do this.

Also, do I need to leave whatever constantly hooked in to keep it modded or can i disconnect psp/ or iphone?
