From xbox360fanboy.com:
Quote

In an interview with IGN about their upcoming game Boom Boom Rocket, Bizarre Creations' own Ben Ward revealed the true ambitions behind that uber hit Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. When asked about their experience with the XBLA and comparing the risks involved between Boom Boom and Geo Wars, Ward said that,
"Geometry Wars was really intended as a gift to hardcore gamers and we initially wanted to give the game away for free. When it became evident that we couldn't do this, we said to Microsoft "what's the absolute bare minimum we can charge". They said 400 points, so we went with that."

So, will people finally shut up saying that Microsoft doesn't regulate marketplace prices? jester.gif

this certainly proves that they do..

wow.. and how many times has MS been quoted pointing the finger at the developer for setting the prices and layout of the DLC that people complain about...

Now I'm curious what the discussion around Lumines Live were really like

assuming that this article is true, then yes it is quite obvious that MS has much control over prices, but then again it is their console and their network...so unless publishers release their games in some other fashion, then we get to deal with the MS greed.

still 400 points for that game is not much...who can complain?

Microsoft probably had a little bit more control over Geometry Wars then say Lumines or any extra content that EA has put out.

It's still the best XBL Arcade game out there and worth every one of those 400 points.  biggrin.gif

Doesn't it come free with PGR3? I thought that was the full version in the garage arcade.

If it werent free, it would have totally killed all other Xbox live arcade games that were available during the console's launch since it was the BEST among then (and still is imho)...there would be no point in buying any other arcade game, so thats why i believe microsoft had them regulate the price.

well, they regulate it a bit -  they have to have minimums and such, but you have to remember, the studio that made geo wars is owned by MS.

Either they regulate the prices or they don't...  By setting a minimum price, they are regulating.

I'm *VERY* disappointed with the level of free stuff available on the marketplace... most of it is crap...once in a while you'll find a few levels to add on to a game... that's cool... but I was expecting a lot more in the way of free basic games...   They made it sound like there was all this content waiting to be released when in fact they were just hoping that other people would make it for them (XNA) and they could still somehow find a way to profit on it ($99 a year)  ....  ya right like Microshaft really needs that $100 a year...  they could pay the amateur (and pro xna) developers $100 a year and still show a huge profit.
