So you're saying that if I were running 4978, it would load the FTPd XBE into memory and run it right away.  If the A button is pressed, then it displays the dashboard image and continues running the FTPd.  If the A button is not pressed, then it loads the normal XBE (default.xbe, evoxdash.xbe, etc.) which terminates the FTPd XBE.  Is this correct?

The dashboard image?  I'm not sure what you mean by that...

By dashboard image, I mean that single X3 graphic that people are calling the Xecuter dashboard (really not a dashboard).

Xecuter2.Build.4978.Bug.Fix has been released, it should now work on X2 Lites.

XBtool 1.0.8b2 was recently released also with "Fixed 4978 dash name patching (actually patches the embedded FTPd app)."

Guess that was for the non bug fix release of 4978 as it fails to edit the dashname.

XBtool 1.0.8b2 was released 10 hour before Xecuter2.Build.4978.Bug.Fix, so it makes sense that it wouldnt be supported yet.

I'm at work behind a militant firewall, so I won't be able to get myself onto Xbins, but maybe someone else has checked:  is there any chance they fixed the X2 Lite bug by packing the BIOS down to 512K?  rolleyes.gif

We're working on a new compression method to get this down to 512k - however 1MB+ is now inevitable.

I wish the released this a 4978.02 or like as was done with 4976 and 4976.02, just to make it easier, but yeah, as long it works smile.gif

Just wanted to put a note out to the users...

On a 4034 xbox, with a hyundai TSOP, when flashed (4978, 4978 fixed, or any of nghtshd's hacks) the box defrags.

Symptons are: No video.

Green led stays normal, and flashes normal sequence as if bios was totally cool. Box doesnt ping/connect, so im assuming that there is nothing going on that i cannot see (i thought perhaps it was just a video confliction, and that it was really booting in the background)

The flash was definitly good, as i reflashed 4976.02 after testing multiple flashes of the listed bios's above, and it booted normal as should.

So the moral of the story is, if you have a 4034 hyundai TSOP and your doing a flash....dont =p

The dashboard image?  I'm not sure what you mean by that...

But yes, you are correct...

1. Kernel launchs mini-ftpd.xbe
2. mini-ftpd.xbe checks for button press
3. If the button is pressed, continue running.
4. Else check for the various dashboards in order, and launch the first one found (which of course exits the ftpd).

Again, this is why people can't get the kernel to boot dashboards on different partitions ala xbtool.  It's simply because the kernel doesn't do it anymore (though it will if it gets an error trying to load and run the embedded xbe).

So a conclusion here would be you CANNOT BOOT FROM CD if you have this bios flashed am I correct?

I have the exact same issue with my Xbox except I was flashing a X 2.0 lite.

Add to the list:
DVD doesn't open no matter what (So freeX stuff is a nogo making a seperate chip needed)

Why bother filling bioses with crap that can be loaded from the hard drive?

I think its a method by which someone can "justify" us leaving our cheapmods?

Please leave this garbage out of bioses, stick to the real stuff like features etc..  for that you probably will only ever need a 256k bios...

So KEEP your cheapmod AND use this BIOS.  If I have to say "Phoenix Loader" one more time there's going to be a bloodbath.

no, that is totally wrong.

^^Would look to the dvd drive for a default.xbe for the hard drive.

We've coded a new packer with heavy compression algorythms - the bios is now 512k.
Except 4979 in the next couple of days , we're adding DHCP support plus a couple of on screen display extras.
Also looking at PASV and other FTP extras to give optimum performance.

Changes 4978->4978.2:
- Squeezed to 512k with FTP server still functional (this is done by implementing heavy compression algorithms)
- no functional changes
