Xploder Xbox 360 Media Centre Set for Worldwide Release-- Posted by XanTium on June 1 13:26 EST
Note sure what they try to achieve with free alternatives like Transcode 360(info), VLC360(info) and MCE Video Encoder(info) already available, but here's the press release anyway:

30th June 2006 will see the launch of Xploder Media Centre for Xbox 360 - the advanced desktop utility that allows you to stream all digital movies and convert and stream music files from your PC for playback via the Xbox 360.
Make the most of your digital media collection; transform your Xbox 360 into the ultimate home entertainment system with Xploder Media Centre.

Movie streaming via the Xbox 360
Already built up a collection of digital movies?
Frustrated by the Xbox 360's inability to cope with non-Microsoft-standard file types?
Now you can stream all your movies including those in DivX, MPEG, Xvid and WMV formats, in real-time to your TV via the Xbox 360 (connected to a Windows Media Centre PC). Xploder for Xbox 360 also allows you to play content in High Definition (dependent on individual system configuration and source files).

Playing music via the Xbox 360
Hook up your Xbox 360 to your AV system and playback digital music tracks. Convert CDs to MP3 format for digital playback, with all track, artist and album information provided automatically using an online database.

Availability
Retailed in distinctive metal packaging and complete with a three metre XLink Ethernet cable and crossover adaptor - Xploder Media Centre for Xbox 360 will be available from the online store at www.xploder.net, as well as high street retailers across the UK (RRP £29.99) and Europe (RRP €39.99).

Note: yes, it will of course need Windows Media Center Edition, to playback any movies on your Xbox 360.

how come MS just let's this happen? i would think they they try anything to make it impossible to play divx or so... ?

and if they can't do anything against it, then wy not adjust the xbox's software themselves so that everything is controlled by their own software?

(not an expert on this, but it just always seemed strange to me)

I'm confused, all the other tools used to stream divx movies of the computer from X360, the movie was being streamed but really it was being re-created to be viewed on X360. How is Xploder XBOX 360 Media Centre going to be playing Divx files on XBOX360.

I hope its not the same as the other tools because they're shit IMO.

totaly a licence situation as i understand it.
i seem to recall reading that MS would simply not pay for the privaledge on including Divx support.

Simply select the movie you wish to view and Xploder takes care of the rest – converting incompatible files and streaming them to the TV in real-time.

Directly taken from their site. So yes its exactly the same

MS hates Divx, when Divx first was made it was a hacked version of Windows Media Video.

MS is afraid that Divx could be a major competitor to WMV in future!!
well if MS can't support something on 360, they should allow us to upgrade it by ourselves(like PC)

My problem is why do these types of things only work with Media Center XP? Can they not make it for any Windows XP platform?
