well I went searching and guess what I found... there's a new Wireless forum at xbconnect.com   and I found all the answers there.  Apparently there's something about wireless and mac address translation that makes the xbox reject the packets.  Their solution so far is "remote control of a hard wired pc" via MSN messenger or Netmeeting or PCanywhere.   anyway.. I'll leave the post here in case anybody else searches for wireless. Here is a link to the forum
