ok i heard from a friend that PSO requires you to pay an additional fee to xbox live. something like 6$. Is this true?

that sucks. is their a way to play online but not pay? does the Gamecube version cost money?

No, you can't play PSO online in any way without paying, same goes for the Gamecube version, which costs a monthly fee too.

And, paying monthly for a MMORPG is nothing new.
