What Resolution Do You Run Xbmc?
« Reply #30 on: April 12, 2006, 11:06:00 PM »

I figured it out, nevermind.  Anyway, I think I am going to switch back to 480p because on 720p 16:9 video and everything is ok, but the text is a bit blurry.  43" hitachi widescreen rear projection TV.  Several years old.

Oh well heres a twist, i was always using 480p on my 32" lcd tv, don't like 720p its a smaller area on the screen.

But now with the latest build of xbmc i am running the skin at 480p and playing dvd's / avi's at 1080i (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Because now they have added a seperate video output screen mode. Best of both worlds.

Lovely (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I can't switch to 16:9.... its driving me mad
It only give me resolution options of 4:3 or auto.

on my old 27" 4:3 tele - I'm sure I had 16:9 options.. since moving to a 32" lcd - I only get 4:3

I've forced my 32" LCD to 16:9 but it is just stretching the 4:3 image

A mate is running 16:9 and says it just switches by default

..... any advice?!

How did you do that? I'm using Expert's 4/23 release and I've dug all through the setup to find that option and didn't see it.

weird. Been running PM3 with V1.0 xbox at 1080i and not even a hiccup. Using the X2 5032 bios I believe, its a hardmod.. shouldn't make a wink of difference tho. Guess I got lucky with my system, or just don't watch media that won't play (most I rar up and xfer over, divx/xvid and mpg mainly).
Like the animation feature of PM3 tho.. addds a nice touch.

Last I seen you go to settings and system or appearance. You need to be using the high def cables though for the option to be present, standard xbox cables will only give you standard output capibilities.

Is it possible to get any of the hi-def settings when using a PAL system? From what I remember (haven't messed with the xbox for a little while) it wasn't possible, but I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Cheers for any help

What you can do is switching your PAL/NTSC setting in the EEPROM to enable the HD output. But to do that you have to be sure that your TV will support NTSC (480i), ETV (480p) or HD (720p, 1080i).

The TV isn't a problem. It'll take 720p and 1080i no problem. I guess I'd need to set the xbox to 720p due to the memory issues, but other than that, it shouldn't be a problem.

Would this be an issue with Pal games, though?

And also, what output cable would be needed?

Cheers again.

Ok, the cable is sorted. Still not sure about the PAL games though.

Is it possible to get high definition on a PAL xbox, if yes would a scart socket do or do I need the advanced AV pack.

I've got a scart cable which doesn't have those three leads for sound and video it's a straight scart lead, will that allow HD?

If games can't work in HD can I watch downloaded TV programs on XBMC in HD at 720p?

How do I get .TS files to work on xbmc?

Am currently using A Pal xbox in the uk. I have xecuter x3ce. All I had to do is switch from pal to ntsc and enable the hi-def modes. I got the m$ HD A/V Pack. I have a 42" plasma screen. Using xbmc at 1080i is tricky as the text size is too small.
There is a way of changing the fonts.

I've played a some DVDs and TV programmes and with the LCD can see the resolution used. I have pal games and played a few with no problem even when the chip is off. I dont use xbox live with this though.

There are some settings in xbmc that I had to change because of changing to ntsc. You can choose which resolution to play dvds if different from games and dashboards.

Most HD Ready plasma screens coming out support both pal and ntsc.

Am pleased to say everything works well!

480i 4:3. I'd like to run 576i -- which my TV/Xbox supports -- but the option is unavailable. Odd.

Hoping to upgrade to 480p or 720p sometime next year.

I guess that only by using a HDTV AV cable you are able to choose the output?
mine's currently @ 480i. cant change.
btw, does the 720i mode also applies when using the normal yellow, red & white plugs?
I've nv seen a HDTV cable before. i belief it does provides other means like YCbCr etc..
does it runs on normal TV using the yellow, red, white plugs in 720i as well?
