I was running mine on a HD projector as well and sold it and bought a 37" LCD television.  Projectors that big make the images look worse, and colour/contrast/brightness are never as good on a projector as they are on new HDTVs.

lol. way off topic.  The PQ will not be a sharp due to simple pixels per square inch.  AVS is a better place for that topic or PM.

Im runnin 1080i 16X9 on a 50 inch toshiba rear projection.  And the text size in crisp and clear.  But I have ran into that memory issue.  Now I know the fix.  I ussaly just upgrade xbmc at that point and it goes away.

Between my apartment and home:

Xbox 1: 480p 16:9 on 61" CRT RP HDTV (no 720p over component and 1080i looks like hell)
Xbox 2: 720p 16:9 on 20" Dell LCD via VGA
Xbox 3: 720p 16:9 on 105" screen through InFocus SP4805 480p DLP projector (menus look better in 720 and the PJ has a great scaler chip)
Xbox 4: 480i 4:3 on 27" CRT via component
Xbox 5: 480i 4:3 on 23" CRT via composite
Xbox 6: 480i 4:3 on 19" CRT via RF

I seriously prefer widescreen and refuse to buy any new 4:3 display devices.  Death to pan-and-scan movies "formatted to fit [a very shitty] screen" and games (looking straight at BF2) that don't support widescreen.

Hi guys. I'm an experienced XBMC user, I've been running it for years now, and I'm finally buying my first HDTV. I'm looking at picking up one of the new Samsung 1080p 40" LCDs.

I know I'm not going to get 1080p out of the xbox and from what I hear, 1080i isn't going to happen without a ram upgrade. So it looks like I'll just run it at 720p.

Now, is the 1080i slowdown problem just with the interface? Or can I watch my movies at a higher resolution that the GUI is running?

How well is the upconverting with xbmc? I figured that upconverting hte movies to 1080i would be pushing it a bit much anyways, so i figured i'd just stick to 720p. Does anyone have any experience with really good upconverting dvd players? How does Xbmc compare?

I've got an older Sony Trinitron 27" crt i'll be replacing. its a great little TV, and xbmc's picture is great on it. Most of my content consists of Tv shows @ 624x352 and movies @ 640x*** and some 576x***. How well can I expect these to look. With my current tv, these look great. I'd hate to buy a great new tv just to have all my content look crappy on it.

Thanks for the help guys!

I run XBMC at NTSC 16:9 (which I guess is 480i?) because it's the most memory efficient, and what can I say, I love the "flicker filter" and soften, and that is the last resolution those two work at.  I don't really see the point at running the dashboard at such a high resolution when the xbox's limited memory really slows everything down, esp. if you're using MC360.  I'll usu. run my videos in NTSC 16:9 as well since I watch a lot of standard definition, broadcast tv using xbmc as a set-top box.  If I watch a movie I'll set the videos to 1080i tho (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

MS was really ahead of the game in high-def with the original xbox, it rocks

1080i slowdowns are only with the interface, watching movies is great.  Of course that's only for upconverting, if it's 1080 native there's no way it's going to work..

Hello, Today i received my HD Component cable for my Xbox1, and i am a bit confused how to enable 720p.
My Xbox is hard modded, don't know what mod chip though, Anyway, I'm Australian and my Xbox is PAL, and ive been trying to find an answer as to how i can enable 720p, and it looks like i have to change my Xbox from PAL to NTSC, but i dont know how to go about it/what to do, So atm im really confused (btw, Yes my Tv can accept 720p/1080i signal)

you should be able to switch to NTSC using your dash (e.g. evo x)
then boot to ms dash and options will be available in display settings.

Ijust use that old videamode changer, also the option to enable 720p won't show 'till you have a HD cable attached afaik.

LMAO  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) LOL. Peeps in here posting about their HDTV brand set and size. Post is about Resolution. LOL I guess its just an excuse to brag to fellow xbmc users. Nice way to show off though. Haha BTW I was running mines on 720p and God knows, it was looking nice and sexy. Ill try 1080i tomorrow when I revive my v 1.0 baby  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Maybe we should have a thread titled "Show me your HDTV Set". Sure would be nice. Im seriously thinking about it.

Exactly!!!!

Anyone got any suggestions on reformatting a native 1080i HD-WMV?  I have noticed just a hint of choppiness when upscaling from 720p to 1080i on some divx movies.  So should I convert it to 720p and play it with xbmc at 720p...or should i make it a little smaller and use xbmc to upscale it to 1080i?  I'm gonna experiment, but any suggestions would be appreciated cuz I'm an HD noob:D

The size of the T.V. has a big effect on what each resolution will look like...it's not bragging...it's giving detail to make a better comparison.

I'm running xbmc @ 480i cuz it looks great and runs much smoother with PMIII.   720p worked fine too though, but 1080i caused some minor issues and is just overkill for a dashboard IMO.

Movies are upscaled to 1080i, for now, on an out-dated 60in Toshiba rear projection.

I can't believe I waited so long to buy those monster cables.  I found both the "gamelink 400x" component video and the "lightwave 100x" optical cables for a grand total of $30 brand new on Ebay Express (2-day shipping included).  I highly recommend those 2 cables, just make sure you have an optical input on your stereo before you buy the "lightwave 100x".  The picture and sound are both amazing!

Sorry for the long-winded post...TOO MUCH COFFEE (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
