@romeo68:

which OS do you use?? I think XP wink.gif !!

You have to know your username and your password for your login in WinXP!!

<bookmark>
<name>name showing in XBMC</name>
<path>smb://Username:Password@IP of PC/share name of folder|drive</path>
</bookmark>

f.e.:
<bookmark>
<name>Movies</name>
<path>smb://romeo68:[email protected]/Movies</path>
</bookmark>

don't care about xns and xbms you are using SMB!!!

i'm using win xp pro.

the lines in the xbmc.xml i've got to access pictures is:

<bookmark>
     <name>SMB</name>

     <path>smb://xxx.xxx.x.xxx/family and friend pictures/</path>
   </bookmark>

where xxx.xxx.x.xxx is the ip address of my pc.

keep in mind that "family and friend pictures" is not the folder name of the folder you want to share, it's the share name.  the folder name in this case is "My Pictures"

1)  right click on the folder you want to share and choose "sharing and security" in the shell menu.

2)  select the "share this folder" radio button

3)  name the share, i name them something different than the folder name to keep them straight.

4)  then select "permissions" and set the permissions for this shared folder (the "share")

5)  then choose the "security" tab and set the securities for each user account

that should do it for you, the trickiest part for me was setting the securities for each share because it was all trial and error for me at the time.  now it kinda makes sense.

trader97

it may be a typo in your post, but you should have a "/" to close the path of your share.

can't tell if that will help or not tho.

tex

when i was setting my smb up, those kind of problems were alleviated by getting the security and permission set up correctly.

what happens if you just put

<name>SMB</name>
<path>smb://xxx.xxx.x.xxx/</path>
</bookmark>
</video>

without the Anime/?

I did this to make sure that my shares were working in the first place.

Then I started adding deeper folders.

good luck!

Thanks for the help and really clear tutorial guys.

Only problem, it doesnt work in XP home  wink.gif

XP Home doesnt have the security tab, nor can you disable simple file sharing so as to get one ....

Cant beleive evreyone here is using Win Xp Pro, there must be a Home user who has got this cracked........

----------------------------

heres what I have got ...

smb://192.168.1.5/divx      =    Invalid Handle

smb://[email protected]/divx  = Invalid Handle

smb://192.168.1.5        = Lists all shared folders ... whoopie smile.gif  however, try and access one of em and ..... Invalid handle ... lol

The MUST be a way ... The truth is out there biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif  I have WinXP Home

i have it like this:

<path>smb://(PC IP)/Sav/</path>

(*Picture removed by Savage cause of Bandwith Limit*)

Works Perfect.  blink.gif

I can get my xbox to see my shared folder ( just trying one till I get it working), it takes about 5 minutes, but it see it. Then when I try and play a movie, it just hangs and I have to do a hard reboot.

Explain to me again why xbmc is o much better than xbmp? At least I can get to watch a movie using relax, so just whats so great about this samba?
