Gentoox Or Xdsl Fully Native Install
« on: October 16, 2010, 02:58:00 PM »

Hi all,

I was wondering if there were any options for installing Gentoox or Xdsl fully native (comparable to Xebian).  Meaning the distribution (either one is fine, although Xdsl would be preferable) would be installed to the entire Hard Drive.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response,

as of now, I have my motherboard TSOP'd and flashed with cromwell.  What I'm really looking for is any specific commands in Gentoox or Xdsl to use the complete hard disk as a linux machine.

This is fairly straight forward and does work (I've done it). Gentoox is well supported and recommended.

Thanks Movax for the link, sorry to dig an old post out but I'm having some real problems with this installation.

First, I'm using a terabyte hd and partitioning the swap and ext3 at the end of the drive instead of using the entire hard drive for gentoox.  I'm able to partition correctly and make all of the directories but I'm unable to mount the rootfs; the kernel complains about it not being a directory.  Would this have something to do with the partitioning scheme?

Thanks.

I'm not sure. You aren't using cromwell anymore? How are you booting Linux?

I have my TSOP dual booting x2 5035 and cromwell.  I actually managed to get the rootfs mounted and everything, but cromwell doesn't seem to pick up the hda2 partition so I am unable to boot from it.

I see. That is an interesting problem. I don't know the details of cromwell well enough to know if it is capable to work in that setup. You could always leave the bios as a modded bios and boot xcromwell with a minimal loopback and everything else native on hda2 or some combination.

no initrd from config file Bootconfig: Kernel /boot/vmlinuz
Bootconfig: Kerel commandline:
init=/linuxrc root=/dev/hda2 kbd-reset video=xbox:640x480,nohwcursor,hoc=13,voc=13 don'tdeleteme
Kernel:

I'm assuming that its missing the kernel to boot from. I suppose I should probably start with a fresh install of everything just to be sure, but suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks
