QUOTE (aquiesce @ Oct 16 2004, 04:37 PM)
I have just followed this tut exactly OCnewB for a 2.6 in a V1.4 everything looks perfect however it frags when I enable the chip boots when I disable it.
I have got 2 brand new chips unflashed and I have tried plugging both into the pinheader but I get the same thing. I have desoldered and resoldered a couple of times but still the same, would you have any idea that can help me out please. Seeing as though you seem to really know what your doing I thought you may know what it is.

PS both the chips are unflashed and therefore should go to the cromwell screen right??? OR do you have to somehow flash these chips first?

Thanks
Paul

PPS this should definately be sticked....great tutourial simple and to the point

Well the cromwell bios should be on the chip. You should try to use another bank maybe to start up.  bank 1 vs bank 2 or vice versa. If still nothing i guess you did lift a trace around the lpc points or maybe the d0. inspect your mainboard thoroughly!

No i didnt lift a track or any trace or anything I have been modding a long time and I am very careful/compitent however this chip im using now was actually flashed in another machine  not lank as I thought and im wondering if its a problem with the flash maybe i should try to program it with my progger and use a different BIOS, that reminds me there is no specific BIOS needed for a 1.4 is there mate?

Nope, just use x2 4983 it should work.

Another set of photo's from an Xbox I've just modded ... an Xecuter 2.6 lite chip on a clear 1.6 Xbox ...

Stage 1. Remove the pins from the pin header and solder all remaining pins in (as shown)

user posted image

Stage 2. Solder on 5 large wires on LPC header and mobo. This remaps the LPC on newer mobos. (yellow, blue, purple, black, orange in my picture)

Stage 3. Solder the red/grey/green wires that are supplied, these plug into the chip. Grey = d0, red = HDD LED, green = LAN LED

user posted image

Stage 4. Solder on the 5v (seperate red) power supply on top of motherboard. Other end plugs in chip

user posted image

Stage 5. Attach chip to 5v supply, red/green/grey wires, and 5v red wire.

Stage 6. Attach switch board on outside of case, and use supplied cable to attch to chip.

Stage 7. Chip should now work.

Stage 8. If large (>137gb) HDD is required, remake m8_16 BIOS using EvTool (use partition 6 for all extra space). If a large HDD is not required the usual m8_16 BIOS will suffice. In either case you may get errors unless this BIOS fills both banks (1Mb) - so do not just fill one bank!

Hardware Installation Complete

Anyone, feel free to use these images without credit - just don't pass off as your own!

If I mod a 1.0-1.5 box - do I need to add the 5v power supply wire like on the pic immediately above?

Cheers

if the bios you flashed was 512K or less you can just switch to bank 2 and try again

otherwise, yeah you can flash it in another box.
