I'd suggest a modchip, but i'd go with an X3 not a Spider.

50 bucks for a softmod is a joke, you'd be getting ripped off so much it hurts tongue.gif i made a reply earlier tonight explaining the differances between softmods, tsop flashes, and modchips, let me find it and i'll edit my reply to link to it.

-----edit------

http://forums.xbox-s...dpost&p=2105632

read that post smile.gif

and i also recommend an x3 (or at least an x2.6 which is a little bit cheaper and doesn't have quite as many cool features.)

hardware mods are cheap.  like leds, cleared jewel, and some paint can get u a great xbox.

for a tsop flash (what i have) its great, and future games cant detect it....XBL can detect it.

modchips are great, never used one, but i have friends who have them.  u can switch it on and off to use XBL or not, and load up the alternate bios

check out the exploits forums for lots of good info. the "XBE exploits" forums is where you'll get most of your info

if you don't plan on putting a drive >137GB, then you don't have to worry about dash upgrades fucking your softmod since nkpatcher lets you use a virtual C drive that gets mounted on boot so the retail C remains softmoded and the virtual C can be updated with no problems since it's not needed to boot the softmod

I would personally recommend a Solderless Chip over a softmod, as long as you don't have a v1.6.  XeniumICE is a great package and very newbie friendly.  If you want to do Softmodding though I hear itools is the way to go.  Itools Guide. XeniumICE Guide.  Read them both over and decide what's best for you.

I have a 1.6, though...I heard softmodding the 1.6 is a bitch.  Is there any place I could send my Xbox to to get it hardmodded?

Check the forums, there are many people who will mod your box but shipping is expensive.  The link I gave you for Itools is relatively painless if you have everything needed.  Action replay will cost about $20-$30 but the exploitable games are all under $10 used at gamestop.

I'm going through the softmod thing and it seems easy enough, buuuut...the tutorial kinda falls flat where it's supposed to give you WHERE to get itools.  I connected to the ftp, but I can't find itools for the life of me.  Anyone know exactly where it is?  uhh.gif

QUOTE (RandomUser69 @ Dec 15 2004, 05:24 PM)
I just got a brand spanking new used xbox

laugh.gif  Thought that was kinda funny

Don't softmod...it's lame. I would hardmod it for you for a good price, but I'm not accepting any more orders until January. Be sure to get a chip though, or trade it in for an older box and TSOP it.

If you have the money, it is worth it to get a good modchip.
If you are interested in the challenge or dont have the money or just want to see if it works, softmods can do almost everything a modchip can.

I personally use softmods, but if you are comfortable you can use a modchip.
