Screwed Up Somewhere!
« Reply #30 on: October 07, 2004, 07:43:00 PM »

Well your dash is up to date. So thats ok. Did you delete the default.xbe?

OK lets back up. You do have a file in the root of C: named "xboxdash.xbe" (spelled just like that)?
Now in your "evox.ini" is also says "MSDashBoard = "c:\xboxdash.xbe" (spelled just like that)?

What we know is, Evox can launch MS Dash from within Evox. So we know the xboxdash.xbe is good or it wouldn't be able to launch it. Xbox can't seem to locate this file for some reason when we ask the xbox to launch it. Are you using a softmod or modchip?

Please answer the top two questions and the bottom question.

Also, do you know if the eject button ever did work correctly (boot the MS dash)?

the eject button when pressed has always worked fine (pre modchip)

and when chip was fitted if you pressed the eject button it would take you to the xenium o/s screen as its supposed to

So the power button would take you to the MS dash then right, and it was working before (meaning with the modchip installed).

And you didn't have a backup of the C dirve while everything was working correctly?

the way it worked was setup in xenium's o/s to do as follows;

Power = xecuter 2 bios (evox)
Eject  = xenium o/s (in which you could successfully load up ms dash)

QUOTE
When you say booting to MS dash, do you mean like if you press power evox boots and when you press eject MS Dash is suppose to boot?

QUOTE
yeah exactly.

but ms doesnt boot

but it DOES boot when you load from the evox menu

QUOTE
the strange thing about it is i can get to my ms dashboard from evox but if i try just booting the ms dash it doesnt work

Ok this isn't making sense to me. I thought I was trouble shooting a problem were I thought one of your buttons (power/eject) booted MS dash and the other booted Evox.

Thats not what I'm reading here.

When is it the MS dash not booting. What steps are you doing when the MS dash gives the error.

i know im baffling myself here too!!

right ok down to explaining this right.

with the modchip installed:

the ms dash has never booted from turning it on (this is not a fault just the way i had it set up)

the evox dash has always booted using the power button.

the eject button was set so if i needed to use xenium o/s to do anything or boot the ms dash i could do so via launching it from xenium's o/s (which was on the chip as standard)

I hope that makes more sense!!!

btw MS dash has always worked up until this evening, i used it yesterday night

I'm looking over my last post and I figure your pressing Eject, which then loads the xenium o/s. From there your tring to boot to MS dash and getting either error 13 or 16. Am I correct?
If so, then I'm wondering if the problem is actually a setting or a setting with in a file (like evox.ini for evoxdash) for xenium o/s. I got to get off to bed so I can get up for work tomorrow. In the mean time check out the xemium fourm board to see if you can get an answer there. If you need to, post your question in that forum with a link to all these post so they can look into your problem with out you typing everything over again.

Click here for the Xenium fourm board.

I looked over a few post there and noticed someone talking about a recover feature thats inside of the xenium o/s. I'm not sure exactly what it recovers or if it will help you, but its worth checking into. Keep this tread updated. I'ed like to see what the problem was when I get back from work tomorrow.

Had a thought while sleeping last nite.........

i upgraded my hard drive only recently, the old stock harddrive, does that get erased? if not surely that will have a good copy of the ms dash on it?

plus with the xenmium o/s 2.0.1 update it gives you the chance to redo the hdd upgrade

any ideas peeps??
