I'm not so sure but it could be a v1.2, v1.3 or even v1.4 either way they are all moddable. But like you said stay away form v1.6! For now anyway until they get a working bios for it.

that should be what you have to do

as you said lock you HDD, turn off modchip, then go to the MS dashboard

not unless im missing anything

its basically you lock your HDD so you can turn off your modchip, and with your modchip turned off they cant do anything to you, and then of course go to the msdash to access the xbox live
