4th Controller Port Not Working?
« Reply #1 on: June 29, 2004, 03:58:00 PM »

What have I done wrong?  I have flashed the bios back to normal and locked the hdd and start up to a basically virign xbox and the 4th controller port still doesnt work for either of them even after taking off the solder. What is wrong here? anybody have any clues for me? (its plugged into the mother board properly because controller 3 works just fine).

TY for any advice I can get

QUOTE
How could I have done this on both boards? I was that sloppy with both of them?
yea u could hav been its unlikely but it does happen

QUOTE
and why just 4 on each box? and not 3 and 4?

because their is 1 for each controller port  and u say the 4th isn't working (bottom 1 4th and top 3th)in the pic from
http://www.xgen-mods...l=usbrepair.tpl
u can get new 1s off llamma.com for like $8

Just bridge them out.  Where the inductor used to be, you'll see two pads on the left and two pads on the right.  Link top-left to top-right.  Link bottom-left to bottom-right.  I've broken these twice (the first time took out 3 and 4!), this solder job fixes them nicely.

biggrin.gif .  A stripped down floppy or hard drive cable should provide you with wire of a similar gauge.

Tin all four pads, removing any bits of the inductor's leads as you do so.  Now build them all up so they've all got enough solder to tack a wire down.  Finally, tack the wire down (left and right), then gently waggle it back and forth until it snaps off leaving a soldered wire bridge.  Repeat for the other two points.

ya I just bridged the top left with the top right and bottom left with bottom right just like Exobex and it worked like a charm all my controller ports work beautifully now, TY again Exobex.  Now to install a switch on my v1.0 motherboard....  but if u look at it u can find inductors for 1 and 2 there on the right.
