1meg To 512 Bios
« on: January 09, 2004, 07:11:00 PM »

about to wire a switch in this weekend so I will have a retail bios/xecuter... my question is how exactly do I split a retail 1meg bios into a 512?  seems like every tutorial I see is for 256...  and I didn't know if I had to do anything special since it was a retail bios or anything.

Thanks

you can use Total Commander.

in the program you browse to the 1meg bios file
- right click your bios file
- under the file menu select split
- in the bytes per file enter 524288

you will be left with 2 new bios files labled .001 and .002, use either

you can also use xbtool, just set it to 512k, then click the size button and browse for your bios, it will resize to 512k

Don't split it is the answer!!
Switch your TSOP on the A19 then boot off one bank, and flash with 1 meg.
Granted it'll flash the bank twice, however it does stop and compatability problems you get when splitting.
I have used this method over 100 times in my own and all the TSOP flashes I have done for others.

if ur using evox to flash, then use a 256mb bios and evox will fit the bios to the chip accordingly! (i.e. making it bigger, etc...)

hope that helps

I am using Evox to flash so I don't need to resize my bios?  I can use an original 1 meg bios flash it, flip the switch flash my Xecuter bios and... wa la its done?           Also what happens if you get a bad flash on one bank, how do you go about fixing the bad bank?

Basically, Yep, and  Viola! Its done.
If you get a bad flash. flip the switch to the good side bios. After booting set it up to flash. Just before flashing flip the switch to the bad side and flash away.

xbtool did not work with MS BIOS 4304, so im going to use total commander.  I want to do a dual BIOS on a xbox v1.0.  If I add the switch first, what do i add in evox to flash the TSOP for both bank one and two.  I am going to use my chamaleon chip to flash the TSOP

LOL!  Relax my man!   Wargod is on the scene now!  No need to worry bout a damn thing!  Check out the tutl mah boy "The Dude" wrote:

Hell, I dug a lil deeper and applied the flippin switches concept to mah 1964 Impala.
Now I'm bouncing like a mo fucker flippin switchez on mah ride, while listenin to Hittin Switchez by Eazy-E on my xbox media player in the car... while occasionally flippin switchez on the A18/A19 on the box to revert back to the orig bios.  Now thats' alot of switchez to be hittin all at one time!  Mah glove box gots so much soldering equipment in it that it looks like Radio shack up in dat mother!

*Reverts back to a normal mentality*

Good luck and let us know how hittin them switchez turns out for you!

war god thanks for clearing that up

one quick question though, if i use the 007 method, i read that you can add the switch first then flash.  If this is true how is the original BIOS 4303 xbox v1.0 boot up if there is a switch? does this make sense to you

the bios is actually only 256k in size, its just repeated 4 times (thats why your able to cut it down to 512 or 256k and still go one Live) so when you install your switch it can still read a full bios from the top (or bottom) half and boot normally
