160gb Hdd Only Showing 131gb
« on: November 08, 2004, 01:26:00 AM »

I am a newb so bare with me if i ask something dumb to you.

I just installed a 160GB HDD and it is working. The problem is that i'm only seeing right around 131GB of it when i add up all the partions space.

I have a v1.0 xbox with the xenium ice chip. I also used the the xenium os v2.0.1 to upgrade the hdd. i also have the new ind 5003 bios on there so i believe my bios has support for large hdds.

When i was upgrading the hdd, a message came up and said i have enough space for 2 partions (f and g). it asked me if i wanted to use 2 partions or just the f partition. it told me it was recommended to just use the f partion, so that's what i did. When i look at the G partion on unleashx it says 0MB.

Anways, does anyone know why i'm missing 30GB? Should i have chosen to use the 2 partions (f and g)? Is this why i didn't get the full harddrive space? What would i need to do to unlock my extra 30GB?

Also, i was looking at my settings in unleashx and it says that i can enable the G partion, i did this and it was still 0. and i also saw that in the xenium os i can format the G drive. I was going to do this to see what happened but when i started to do so, it said that if i did this i would lose everything i think in that partion. So i was going to do it, but it asked me like 3 times if i was sure if wanted to format the G partion. So it scared me off cuz i'm not confident i was doing the right thing. I figured that since the G partition has 0 space right now that it wouldn't hurt anything, but i didn't want to mess anything up.

Anyways, i'm confused as to what i'm supposed to do to get the rest of my harddrive space, can anyone help?

thanks

you did the upgrade right.  no need for a g drive with 160gbs.

do you know what version xenium os your using?  (red background or blue).  you may have to format your f: partition.  let everyone know what os your using.

have no frets, if all else fails, appleguru, gumba, or artifex will probably get you straight.  or someone else.  i dont know enough about ind bios to know if thats the issue.  wish i could be more helpful.  but there was a bug in older os's.  you would have needed 2.0.1 (blue background) to successfully do the upgrade using the xenium os.  goodluck

Sounds like your BIOS doesn't support LBA48.

Time for some BIOS choosing advice ;)

Which BIOS should I use?

If you have a 1.0 to 1.5 xbox then use X2 4983, or 4981 if you want to hack it with XBTool. X2 features LBA48, IGR, Eject Fixes, AV Fixes and Xbox Live Protection, and is simply the best BIOS available.

If you have a 1.6 xbox, then you have to use EvoX M8 1.6, you will want to hack it with EVTool. M8 can be modified to have approximations of most of the features of X2 except for XBox Live Protection. Pity.

If you have an HD >250 GB you have to use the .67 variants, aka f+g, if your HD is 250GB or smaller then you should use the .06 (ie f takes rest of drive) variant.

Yea you can use Xbtool to modify bios's not all of them will allow you to modify them but i think 4981 works.  Should say something like partition 6 takes up most and partition 7 takes up rest. (6 F 7 G)  Just select partition 6 takes all or takes rest.  and then reupload the bios and when you go check it should go above 137, and be like 155 or something.  good luck

what dash are you using>

In AVALAUNCH you must enable the G: and i think this holds true with Unleash X too.

I tried running it from the x2 4983 bios and i got the same exact #. It says that i only have 131GB total harddrive space. I have the xenium os 2.0.1. i am viewing the total harddrive space from the unleashX dashboard by adding up all the #'s on the right side (which i believe are the total space of each partition of the drive, f+c+x...).

here is a summary of what i tried.

x2 4983 bios, HDD size = 131 GB from unleashX dashboard.

ind 5003 bios, HDD size = 131 GB from unleashX dashboard.

Anyone know why i'm not seeing my extra 30GB?

Do i need to do this with the 4983 and the ind5003? I assumed that they do this automatically since it says they support LBA48. Do i have to click something to enable them?

Ya, I'm using the UnleashX dash. From unleashX i'm going into the file explorer to figure out the size of the hdd showing.

Should i try another dash, and if so which one can i try that will show how much space i have?

If i enable the G, it wont do anything because i only chose to format a F drive and not a G drive. Is this correct?

I'm having the same problem - 200GB hdd not recognizing the entire thing.  Using Xenium 2.0 w/ M8 Bios and EvoX dashboard.  Is the 4983 bios the magic bullet for this fix?  Also, probably a dumb question but when you load a new bios does that affect current partitioning and games that are backed up or not?

checked the settings but I'm not real sure what would change the size of hdd there.  My G drive shows 0 and lower in the menu G drive is enabled for use.

bumping this thread to see if someone can answer the questions since there's a couple of us in the same thread with the problem.  I've since changed my bios from m8 to x2 4983.06 since it has lb48 support but my g drive is still showing 0.  Do I need to format the drive once more then reload evox dashboard to get the other 60+gb of space to show that I'm currently missing?

Ok you guys really seem to be having trouble with making the f drive go past 137 so i took two screen shots with Xbtool to show you what you need to do to fix this.

Note that Xbtool will not let you fully mess with all Bioses.  I tried M7 and M8 it wouldn't let me mess with the partitioning, but X2 4981.06 works perfect, and i think 4983 is just like m7 and m8.  well you'll figure it out once you try.  here are the two screen shots i took.  when you save it just upload it and then load the bios again and it should go beyond 137.

The pictures look all faded and messed up, just save it to your desktop and look at them from there it should be clear and all.

Also for Xbtool i'm not sure but i think the folder you have xbtool in you need to place th ebios in there also, i don't remember if it allows you to go to another directory to find the bios file.

good luck

flbeserk,

Thank you so much. That completely answered my problem. I didn't realize you had to enable large disk support or how to do so. so thanks again. Also, blueinfinity had mentioned what to do earlier but i didn't understand exactly what he meant so this clarified that. Anyways, thanks for the help everyone.
