Troubleshooting Xenium New Solderless Adapter
« on: May 16, 2004, 10:21:00 PM »

If you are experiencing problems with xenium and use the new Blue Xenium solderless adaptor check following things out.

-- EDIT: -----
Read Install tutorial for solderless adapter provided by nightwing17
Then rest of this message.
---------------

Symptoms:
Flashing xenium led
OR
The led dont light up
OR
The led light up and thén getting FRAG

Reason: Problem with lpc points

SOLUTIONS:
1. Clean LPC holes with alcohol to remove the untistatic coating.
You might have to rubb hard to get possible thin untistatic coating off.

2. Use Rivets
If LPC points are filled with lead then rivets are not necessary.

3. One, pogos might not be completely aligned properly

The adapter is not touching correctly on the rivets. Everytime you screw the adaptor down the front two pegs barely dont touch. This a a fault of adapter cause springs on the pins are to hard.

SOLUTION:
You need to raise the end of adapter where the screw is.
Fold a piece of paper and slide it under the adapter next to the screw. You can also use other material as long is not metallic.

Symptom: Solid red Xenium led and boots to Original MS dash
Reason: Problem with d0 point

SOLUTIONS:
1. Clean d0 point with alcohol to remove the untistatic coating.
You might have to rubb hard to get possible thin untistatic coating off.

2. Clean d0 wire end with alcohol to give it better electrical connection.

3. D0 hook may have a cold solder joint at the connection where the wire meets the hook.

SOLUTION1:
Send the adapter back for warranty replacement.

SOLUTION2:
Resoldering the D0 hook on the adapter.
- use this solution, if you want a quick solution

If any of these helped, then please through in a reply saying which solutions fixed your problem. (just querious) smile.gif

Glad we could help. Marksu, thanks for posting the info.

This seems to be a recurring problem with the solderless adapter. Hopefully this information can prevent a few end-user headaches.

Great Job

We noticed that issue as soon as those adapters were shipped to us, we love the adapter but they need to mold a spacer onto the screw end or provide a washer for the screw that is about 1-2 mm thick as to make the load even on the adapter pins.
We also install the little brass rivets in all the newer systems with the LPC holes as to make sure the contact is better with the front 2 pins.

Hopefully OZXODUS comes up with a fix for this soon.

Thanks Again and Great Job

Resoldering the D0 hook on the adapter.

In my opinion the correct solution is:
Send the adapter back for warranty replacement.

Why would anyone buy an solderless adapter if they were capable of soldering?

Yes, I do understand that that is a solution for DYI people, but still. If people are just accepting a product that is faulty then the manufacturer will have no reason to fix their product and they can continue shipping products of unacceptable quality to their customers.

Grez you got a point there.

Still there are ppl that feel they rather do the litle safe fix soldering on the adapter so they get the xenium working the same night.

Think about it person waiting 5-15 days to get the chip. Each day feeleing like a horror movie cause person so eger the get his xbox modded.

After receiwing the xenium and adapter he realises litle tiny fault on the adapter.
If he returns it for replacement he might have to wait double time he waited to get it (5-15 days times two).

Well doing litle soldering on the adapter is quite safe comparing soldering the mobo. Therefore he might be go ehead and do the tiny soldering fix.

Well as you sead person is entitled to replacement and of couce could reguire it to be replace by the seller.

I am not judging your solution eather. smile.gif

EDIT:
Actualy lets add it to one of the solutions.

I broke my d0 pin solder joint in like 5min, it's fine without it, but I wouldn't reccomend using it like that.  I just use my xenium for tsop flashes anyway so I didn't worry about it.

THANKS Marksu!!!
I am the one that posted this yesterday:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=228545

Your "troubleshooting" thread worked PERFECTLY!!!  After spending 3 frustrating hours 2 nights ago trying to get the chip to work...I got it to work within 15 mins last night after following your advice/tricks...
Not sure if it was the cleaning off of the points or the "paper trick", but it kicked right in!!!

Thanks for writing this thread!!

Paper trick alone seems to be required 65% of all adapter owners, and then there is also the other trouble shooting tips on this thread also.

POLL: Xenium Blue Solderless Adapter Paper Folding Trick

Seems like I am almost the only one trying to keep this thread alive. dry.gif

Would it work if you were to put a washer under the adapter at the screw end? Could this be better than a folded piece of paper?

Alas too late. This fault on the connector has ended me with a burred screw hole in the case. Unless I take to glueing the screw in, I have to go a solder connection.

Im hoping somone can suggest a non-soldering solution.

BTW - I think the springed pins are too hard and leaver the end up, rather than the connecter bending. I think they need to be softer springs.
