not giving up that easy....
heres something I thought of when re-reading your new post.
boot up slayers
select new install/full rebuild
select new install/full rebuild-retail HD
backup warning (got nothin to lose at this point)
select restore retail xbox hd to factory
select yes
(please note the drive will be formated and erased)
after ejecting the slayers disk, powering off the xbox, then back on you should have the m$ dash back.   (maybe a newer/older one depending on your xbox version.)

just start a fairly new game, then go to live and hit sign up and it should upgrade your dash to a newer version

Your too far away from me to even consider physically helping you out.
So i will give it a go here.
Do this exactly and dont go off on any tangents that you may think of along the way.
Firstly go to #xbins on the irc network called efnet ang /msg xbins !list
xbins will msg you back with a username and password and ftp address to join there ftp server. (you must remain in the #xbins channel on irc until you have finished using there ftp server)
Open your ftp client and connect to the ip address supplied by xbins and use the username and password supplied.
browse to XBOX / bioses / xchip and choose the evox_xchipv1.3.rar file to download.
once you have this file unzip it and you will have a folder with a few files in there as well as a manual.
Connect your computers usb a/b cable to your xbox, open x_control and when the X logo turns green choose LOAD RAW.
Go to the folder you extracted from the rar file and choose xchipv1.3.bin.
then WRITE CHANGES.
this should take under 5 mins.
Once 100% complete writing then disconnect your usb cable from your xbox.
After you have disconnected the usb cable from the xbox reboot into the new evox 1.3 bios.
Now open your dvd drive and insert your slayers auto installer dvd.
reboot your xbox slayers screen will appear.
choose to full rebuild and choose full rebuild and install dash on C all apps on E
wait for it to complete doing its job , it may take a while.
Reboot your xbox when complete, all should be up and running.
If not you may find you either have a corrupt copy of slayers or your hardrive is physically damaged in some way and needs replacing.
After doing this if you find that you can boot into the evox dash fine, but get an error when you try to disable the chip, you may need to go into setup at boot and check you have locked your hard drive.
hope this helps.

For a basic HD upgrade i use a western digital 80G Harddrive.
all you do is take out the old one make sure the new HD is set to cable select and plug all the wires back in.
on boot go into setup and make sure you have lba48 F only enabled and save and exit
Put the slayers disk in the dvd player on the xbox and boot into slayer auto installer.
Full Rebuild of large hardrive evox on C all apps on F blah blah.
