"modchip" Schematic
« on: March 14, 2008, 10:10:00 AM »

Hey I posted this question in another thread but I hadn't realized this part of the forum didn't get much activity (anymore at least). Basically I am wondering if anyone out there knows of any schematics out there with a pretty basic modchip design.. something like a DuoX2 or an Aladdin, or just a home made device is just as good. Thanks.

SST49LF020 I couldn't find it anywhere.

I'm sure you could buy it somewhere, but idk if you can just get the stand alone chip. I know you could get all the other supplies easily. Post if you can find that memory chip.

networkBoy also has something like this:

But the SST49LF020 is very hard to get your hands on.

I found this here

But the minimun you can buy is 300$'s worth. Which would be like 200 of those little chips.

Hmm... Does it have to be a  SST49LF020, I looked at some of my mod chips, and they have different numbers on them. Couldn't I just use and 256k chip, asuming I could get one?

I think the later designs added more components in the PCB design and hence can use for example the SST49LF020A.

But for the cheapmod, my belief is you can only use SST49LF020 and the reason is it was a bug in that chip not a feature that allowed it to be used as an alternative xbox BIOS.

I did a quick search on ebay and was quite surprised somebody was actually selling the chips but his rating isn't fantastic. You only need to buy 10 pieces. Caveat: I've never dealed with him. Anyway I think the same chip was used as a BIOS chip for some PC motherboards - so that's another possible source.

You will also need the programmer to flash a blank 49LF020.

not necessarily, if you have a modchip with a socketed chip or you plan on using pinheaders you can hotswap to flash them (ive done this before)

Just to clarify, a softmodded xbox won't be able to flash a blank SST49LF020 on the cheapmod connected via LPC, right?

I was actually going to plan on buying 300$ of these little buggers and selling them off. Although I first need to get the money, but before that I need a job, and before that I need to apply for places. Except I doubt they'd sell them to me 4-5$ea, and I was planning on hotswapping them =P

You can create a programmer for them that connects to a pc legacy printer port. I just can't locate the weblink anymore. It has been closed for legacy reasons.

Both my post and lordvader's post have links to the programmer's design. Here's another one hosted on xbox-scene: http://rex.xbox-scen...-Rev1/LPC2.html. There are a few alternative designs actually.
