Zalman Zm-nb32j Northbridge Chipset Cooler
« on: June 07, 2003, 06:21:00 AM »

Hiya would this product (Zalman ZM-NB32J Northbridge Chipset Cooler) at http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=410 fit onto the Xbox CPU? I know I don't need to replace it but it would look brilliant in a PC case with a window. That sweet orange colour (I am slightly coloured blind, it is orange aint it).

Quick note, Dimensions : 37(L) X 37(W) X 32(H) mm

yes it is orange, looks cool. im not quite sure if it would work. try measuring the one on the cpu and see if it is the same size. if it is too high it would hit the dvd rom. good luck, pyro88

I don't think that it will. Xbox CPU heatsink has different mounting methond than this heatsink. So far I haven't seen a  3rd party manufacturer heatsink that would be compatible with  Xbox CPU or GPU  :( .

I can do that, but the processor turned into an ashtray so bear with me. My camera couldnt focus on that so I scanned it:

pics of gpu and cpu

without heatsink:

With heatsink

http://phosting1.webhop.org/xboxmobo2.jpg

cpu itself is 1 1/4" across and 1 1/8" up and down and the actual chip on the cpu is approx 1/2" by 1/2" from the front may be off by about 1/32 of an inch but all i gots a tapemeasure so

happy heatsinking, sorry couldnt show images right in thread, it wouldnt work  :uhh:

btw, I hope your not going to put a heatsink without a fan on there, a PC case doesnt alow as much ventilation through that processor as the xbox does

http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=410 It probebly won't fit that plastic thing on there but I'm sure that it would fit that lump bit which I guess would be the CPU. Hummm, also if I was to use thermal compund would it be sticky enough because it's going into a PC case (tower) so it would be on it's side.

Also, http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/produc...&cat=410&page=1 would the fan of that product fit onto the GPU? And what pin connection does it use. Hum.

Thermal compound is quite sticky but not enough to hold that 3oz heatsink, I would suggest putting ALOT on the bottom of the heatsink to make good contact, then use high temp rated silicone to hold it on on the far edge of the plastic inside, but you would never be able to change the heatsink again without ruining the board and/or cpu, be careful not to crack the chip as it is extremely fragile because that would suck ALOT.

Ok. I think ill give that a MISS. I am going to put it in a premodded case with lots of fans/air flow so heat issues shouldn't be a problem. I was wondering if the xbox shipped stock fan would fit/screw on to the CPU at all. If not what fan system shouls I buy and it must be cheap.

Also would that GPU copper fan fit on to the GPU? I found out it's a 3/4 pin connecter.

The Zalman heatsink comes with a thermal adhesive that will hold it on there solid. Just FYI.
