Do I Need A Resistor?
« on: June 28, 2004, 01:46:00 PM »

I spent last night soldering the shit out of my controller, after fucking up the red cable, I took all the solder off of the pad squeezed in all the small wires on the red cable and resoldered it to the path, everything works fine.  Still can't get the LED + resistor to work, but i still had my LED connected to the black cable (ground).  I turned on my xbox and pushed the positive end of the LED on the red cable on the controller and it lit up.   The LED wire got a little hot but it worked fine.  So do I really need the resistor or not?  I'm using 3v LEDs.  Thanks!

I am getting into soldering and i'm getting better at it, I learned the hard way that I have to heat evertthing that I am soldering and my first attempt I couldn't get any solder on the pen! lol.  Any more soldering tips?  What I do is heat the compnents first, then dab the solder and get small little bits of solder, after every connection I wipe the tip on a damp cloth?  Is that a good idea?
