Burnout3 Freezes On Game Save?

I was playing burnout3 perfectly off of the disc for a while. I made a hard drive backup using complex tools i think and now whenever i go to save a game, it crashes the xbox. When i restart, the file that i was trying to save has become unusable in burnout3

and IGR is turned off in evox and it doesnt seem to matter how i have the date/time set.

i also took the rip on the hd and burned it to dvd but the same exact thing happens. i can load games and start new ones perfectly but whenever i try to save it crashes. any ideas? thanks
