Mp3 Playback W/optical Digital Audio

I am using the digital optical output to connect my xbox to my home receiver. Using XBMP or XBMC the mp3's play back with perfect sound quality. When Avalaunch plays mp3's they sound really flat, no bass no real depth to the sound. Is there any way to fix this?
