Password My Xbox
« on: March 13, 2004, 12:56:00 PM »

Im tired of one of my roomates constantly playing my Xbox.  One of my other roomates said something about passwording the xbox so that none could play w/o the pass.  Can someone tell me what changes i have to make to go about doing this?

Thanks

Autoexec that asks for password.  However, booting a game from a dvd will bypass MXM, unless the BIOS is forced to boot from HD as the first priority.  Then dvd's will have to be launched from within MXM.

okay here's what i'd do, I think this would work, if your not too concerned about the passcode being in plain text you could do this(after you've set the bios to not boot from the dvd,  set the dvd:\default.xbe to dvd:\restore.xbe - that should do the trick

edit your menu.xml to this:
<Menu>
      <Passcode>12345</Passcode>
<SubMenu>
      <Title>Title of item/Title>
<Item>
</Item>
</submenu>
</menu>

I think this will password MXM, maybe, maybe not.   I don't see an easy way to passcode the dvd once it is automatically initialized.  If the games are backed on the hd, add the <Passcode>12345</Passcode> under the games or apps dir.

Why not let your roomates play your Xbox? I don't have any roomates, but I don't mind my friends playing my Xbox when I'm gone. When they play it, it's kinda like my way of showing it off.

Trust me, I have a roomate and he constantly plays my modified xbox.  I can't even play my xbox with him in the room because he just asks me noobish questions. I don't see a problem in letting people play my xbox; however, my roomate just takes advantage of my system.  I use x-select to password protect my dashboard.  I also lock my xbox in my closet whenever i'm not using it.

Lock it in the closet??

you people are funny :)
Be nice, share!! Obviously they don't have an xbox themselves!!!!

I'm sure that you can still use it almost any time you want ;)
but, if all else fails, just take the power cord...

yeah, my cousins do the same. I don't have a problem with them playing my Xbox, my only problem is when they overwrite my saves. 72 hours gone in kotor. 50 in gladius.

 Losing saved game progress is silly... back it up to the PC.. using xbox saves game manager...

also.. if your roomates are that retarded... just kill them... I'm sure no one will miss them

(disclaimer... only kill your roomates if they are clearly retarded)

everytime they play, unless i teach them explicitly how to save, they will overwrite mine, whatever game, even games with profiles, they will either delete my profile or do something stupid

 You can still have it boot disc as first priority (in case you need to make a boot disc) but just change it to something like boot.xbe instead of default.xbe
