I agree with Terry. Though I think Frank Zappa had drummers that more suited his sound, he was the best 'technically' drummer ever with any lineup of the mothers or just fz.

Anthrax, you bring up alot of good ones. Epsecially alot of the underground/indie drummers such as Bob Bert/John McEntire, drummer from June Of 44, etc. etc. Are you into alot of bands like those?

Just my opinions, please don't flame wink.gif

Neil Peart = master of grade ten band class, never progressed past it

QUOTE
Bill Bruford (Yes)
is the only drummer besides Danny Carey and Bonham(whose progression was cut short) that has been posted that has moved past gr 10 band class in my opinion

Best modern drummers = Dave Weckle/Steve Gadd/Dennis Chambers/Steve Smith/Omar Hakim

Note*** Good Rock Drummer is an oxymoron

Vinny Colaiuta played with Zappa so I honestly don't think Bozzio could even be considered the best to play with zappa let alone the best ever. Chad Wackerman had beter latin and caribbean chops than Bozzio so I think he was more suited to Zappa and his reggae parodies.

Missed this:
QUOTE
Jeff Porcaro (Toto)
another good career that was cut short.

I'll add some old guys:

Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Kenny Clarke, Joe Morello

And the greatest ever : Tony Williams

Stewart Copeland is pritty sick with the hi-hat shit tho.....

what about Mike Portonoy (i dont remember the spelling) the drummer of Dream Theater.  Now that guy is sick.  but rumor has it he is full of himself....

Also, a solid, yet amazing all-around fantastic drummer is Chad Sexton from 311. listen to his sick use of a custom tuned high pitch picallo snare, and his sick 64th note rolls in the song "Fuck the Bullshit" to his reggae rythmic beats in songs like "Come origonal"  He is a sick drummer. and like pert, he writes his own songs too: check out "Other side of things" he wrote that song.  its my favorite on evolver. jester.gif

lets not forget goood ole' Jess Margera from CKY.

For once in my humble life I bow to superior knowledge. Yes, very true re Chad Wackerman. Bozzio was a very "flashy" drummer, but with some self-indulgent stuff. Still awesome to watch tho'.
John Bonham (who I saw in the last LZ tour in 1980 - how old am I??!!) was a beast, but an effective one that fitted the band format.

But Colonel32 - you have great taste  beerchug.gif

Neil Pert gets my vote as well, very few people can hold complicated drum solos for as long as he can.  Although I do have to say the drummer for Andromeda (Thomas Lejon) is a close candidate.

Keith Moon takes the cake of all time.  to be able to play like that and NOT have a serious crank addiction = you're a god.
and me of course. smile.gif
