Car Mp3 Cd Player Vs. Portable Mp3 Cd Player

For those of you who might know a bit about this subject.....I was wondering if a portable mp3 cd player will sound just as good as a car mp3 cd player if when using the car adapter (the thing that plugs into the cassette player).  Or...is the sound not as good?
