Cant Connect To Xbox Via Wga54g
« on: December 09, 2003, 10:08:00 PM »

MY PC is connected to wireless router(speedstream 2624) via a cable.
Xbox is connected to wireless game adapter(linksys wga54g).
evox reports IP address.. which the router also reports being leased.

Now I cant ftp or ping or tracert to my xbox ip address. any ideas.

Check you've got the right SSID and you're broadcasting on the correct channel?

Yes I checked both of those.... I am also able to verify that the xbox indeed is getting the right IP. I verified this by launching linux in xbox and I am able to ping all the websites and even surf them.

Just for some darn reason my PC wont connect to it unless I use a cable and not the bridge. In fact when the xbox is on wireless I cant ping it or anything.

AAARGGHH... it worked now.

For some strange convoluted reason the bridge would jump to another network to connect inbetween xbox reboots. So when I was Linux and I would check the adapter setup it would show that its using by SSID. then when I would reboot xbox it would have jumped somewhere else and I couldnt connect (not sure why because I have WEP enabled so it shouldnt connect anywhere else).
I rebooted back to Linux and sure enough it was on another network. I changed the SSID back to what my mine is and VIOLA on next reboot I was able to connect into evox. YEA!!!

4 hours of frustration.

One thing I notice is that the transfer rates are extremely slow... like in the range of 60-70Kbytes/sec even though the bridge is sitting maybe 10 feet away. Could it be too much interference from other networks.

Some newer cordless phones operating at 2.5ghz may interfere with your wirelessG network.
