Wireless Network Setup
« on: November 30, 2003, 02:51:00 PM »

Ok, I just bought a Linksys WRT54G-CA Wireless G Router. I have heard that I need a wireless acces point for my XBOX to connect to the wireless network I have setup, yet I have also heard people saying that you need a Wireless Ethernet Bridge. Are these two things the same? If not, which is better?

Thanks for your help!

I've heard that the WGA11B or the WGA54G will work (these are the Linksys Wireless Game Adapters for 802.11B and G). Also, the WET11 will work.

According to an earlier post:

PC wired and XBox wired = Works fine
PC wired and XBox on a WEB (Wireless Ethernet Bridge) = Works fine and no need to set up WET11 options in XLink
PC wireless and XBox wired = WILL NOT WORK. CONFIRMED MULTIPLE TIMES.
PC wireless and XBox on a WEB = Need to set up the WET11 options in XLink to nominate the real MAC address of the XBox and the address of the WET11 device.

Wireless Ethernet Bridges definately work over XLink...

I'm not so sure about these new Game adapters though. They'd prolly work on XBox Live, but might have trouble over system link...

For now, if you really want to get wireless, stick to WEB's. Linksys WET11 works perfectly...

We might have to investigate a little more with these game adapters....

ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/wga11b_ug.pdf

You'll need to enable SSID, and disable WEP. Might help to use the setup CD ROM on the PC....

If you setup your linksys wireless network with the defaults (which is SSID enabled and WEP disabled), you should not have to use the setup CD with the game adapter. You basically plug it into your ethernet port on your xbox, make sure you have the channel set correct, then boot up your xbox and you're on your wireless network.
