Maybe A New (new) 83850c Firmware Out
« on: September 22, 2009, 06:27:00 AM »

Hello, just got a lite-on 83850C manufacture date aug 2009 from a M$ repair center in new zealand ( so from Australian repair center. and i cant seem to get a valid dump of it.  YES i am aware this is a new drive and its dumpable and yes have done it  on other 83850c drives so many times have lost count.

i have been trying to extract the key exactly the same as i have been doing these 83850C drives all day (at least 7 today). so im positive its not my method, okay certain now as just did another new one today from the shop it says may 2009 83850C on the drive, extracted perfectly.
my question is this, has anyone else noticed the firmware change slightly but the drive stamps stay the same? i cant understand why this one wont extract, believe me i do this all day so what could be causing this specific drive to have an issue (besides a change in firmware maybe or encryption key) the xbox is a halo 3 console. i noticed some weird stuff also on the back of the console they have ripped of the normal manufacture date and say the following" service date, serial number, product id. they don't normally change this sticker do they never noticed before? also came with 3 months xbox live instead of the normal 1 month. another thing they have completely replaced the mother board (i know they sometimes do this), i know this is new as i marked the power supply plug so i could see if this had occurred. old style heat sink still present.
why is it that i can extract flash etc all other drives including this model all day long but this particular drive i cannot. here is the log from jungle flasher,

Hey buddy thanks for your reply. when i say the version has changed im basically saying something is different about this firmware to normal, yes the firmware version is probably the same and even reports as 83850 with jungle. however there is definitely something different about this drive to all other 83850c i have seen before. woke up this morning with fresh head and had another go at it. still same problem, have just tested my method again on another may 2009 83850c and works fine so definitely not user error.
I don't know much about how the firmware is encoded or what lengths people go, to be able to read the key files etc of the drives. Is it possible they have changed the encryption key on the firmware or something? i don't think this would be to hard for them to implement. Please prove me wrong. ill go and buy another console today and give you the log just to show you im serious about being able to read all other 83850c drives, i have done so many of them its not funny. so please take me seriously when i say this drive cannot be read using the current method. smile.gif  uhh.gif

Actually i just found a log file i had from previous dump yesterday to confirm i can normally read the keys and flash these drives.

I have the same issue I thought I was going crazy I have a A0A2 / 83850C which I got back from repair last week its driving me nutts.. I thought I must be doing something wrong with it.. but I have now done 4 other drives which are all dated May 09 and they all worked fine..

The drive I have that I am having issues with is dated August 09 and the Xbox has a service date where the barcode is at the end of September. I got it repaired in Australia.

Not sure if its me but now that I have done other 83850C's which are older then this drive its making me think somethings is not right.. will have to wait an see if others are having this issue..

Thanks

PS I am using the latest 1.66 (49)J/F Drive dated in Aug 09 and Xbox 360 says serviced End of Sept 09. Got it back a week and a half ago.

After reading this thread it made me think maybe something is going on..

We have another 360 repaired in April 09 and I was able to dump that with the same setup I have been having issues with.

What the.. if this is something I am doing wrong I am going crazy.

Thanks

seems they have changed some of there service protocols at repair centers and the encryption, bugger. M$ can pay when i wreck my original games now with dam scratches or even when the xbox scratched the disks.
what pisses me of most about this drive issue is that allot of these dvd drives stop working ether laser or some other issue and need replacing with new drives etc, m$ charges like $150 to fix this (and take 3 weeks) yet i can put a new drive in for around $85 NZD with my labour. how the F88k can we repair these things when they encrypt the method of repair. ahh. i believe they call this a monopoly. i hope the boys figure this out for us. biggrin.gif

Scary stuff!

The firmware version is still the same on the drive sticker. I wonder if its something they are doing to the hardware at the repair centre dry.gif  Like stoping the drive reporting its tray status correctly so it cant be dumped ph34r.gif

I saw a thread like this a week or 2 ago, so for me this is confirmation.
It's too easy to just write these things off as just some noob who cant follow instructions.

my friend bought a new elite box in the UK (Game) yesterday 2009-09-22 and asked me to mod it. I admit this is the 1st 83850C drive I have had to flash (but i've done many of Sam/Hitachi/Benq/Liteon 74 drives before), the drive manufacture date was August 2009, A0A2 HW Ver on the sticker and reporting normally in JF drive properties

no matter what combination I tried of power off/on tray half way/full open etc..

I'm always getting failure to extract the LO83info. I've tried in JF 0.1.66, 0.1.65, also using a VIA card (tried with and without drivers), also tried an Nforce card (which i knew wouldnt work anyway but worth a try).

Although the sticker is the same, something must have changed in the drives firmware to prevent LO83info being gotten successfully. uhh.gif

acDCuk, whats the MFR date and the lot number of that 360?

I have a 2009-08-09  - 0933X sitting in a box unopened I'm toying with taking back.

Wondering if it's from the same lot number as yours.

Also does anyone know if these later xboxs come with the summer update already installed?
