try connecting it to a PC and see if the PC detects it. Xboxen can be kind of finicky with SATA/IDE adapters

I pulled it out of my old pc, but it was a 2nd HDD. I put my main 80G HDD in my xbox. I can put it back into my pc because it has no operating system on it.

connect it to the adapter, and plug the adapter into that PC. see if your PC detects the drive in your BIOS. you can also create it as an xbox hard drive if you use xboxhdm and utilize this method.
