for most set ups including my own, it appears that xexmenu does not like any extra directories on the main hdd of the 360, and resulting in that black screen.

Connect the hdd to the pc and delete that games folder and all should be working fine

I deleted it with Viper360 and now it loads.. ugh.

So just exactly where am I supposed to put my games for Xexmenu's Game Discovery to detect them?

not the problem...

try using a pen drive in the usb and it will load, and if you already have the pen (or HDD) remove it, this helps when you get the black screen, and is not the extra folders as I have like 20 in the root of Partition 3

I think it is the problem.. I've tried everything and my Xexmenu won't tolerate having a Games folder with stuff inside it for some reason, which is really annoying.

I am able to reproduce your problem:
  • install xexmenu 1.1
  • install freestyle dash 1.02 in \hdd1\freestyle

both dashboards work perfectly.
  • copy extracted iso to \hdd1\games

xexmenu crashes with the previously mentioned black screen.
(freestyle dash still works).
  • delete extracted iso from \hdd1\games

xexmenu now works.

Like said before, just insert a usb flash drive and xexmenu will load past the black screen. Had to do this just now, freestyle svn crashed hard with belenos skin.

Excellent thread. I am able to reproduce the problem (even with new FSD) and the workaround posted by s3kt0r.

Me, too but the question still remains. What's with Xexmenu not liking the stuff in the games folder and being dependant on the usb?

Bump.

This is still a problem.

The trick for me: delete the games folder.  Make a new folder called GAME or whatever you want (just not Games) and put your games in there.

I guess the problem is the hiding folder §recycle bin, try to go to show all system files you should see this folder on your external usb disc delete it.
