I presume this is deemed 'not allowed' as it is assumed only of any use to pirates?

That's not strictly true, what about people like myself who have removed the DVD drive from the 360 completely? It works like this:

1 - Create .iso from LEGIT game.
2 - Use Iso2god then FTP to 360.
