Xbox Media Connect + Xp Pro Sp2
« on: April 14, 2006, 12:24:00 AM »

here's my setup:

dlink 624 router
dlink gigabit switch
xbox 360
PC with XP Pro SP2

PC and XBOX 360 -> gigabit switch -> router

the PC and xbox have static IP's

I can connect the xbox 360 to xbox live perfectly but i cannot stream media from my pc.  I have downloaded and installed Windows Media Connect and it is "started."  I saw my computer once when i was browsing from the xbox but i could not connect to it.

do i need to forward any ports?  my router is "xbox live compatible."

Thanks!

For what it's worth I have the same equipment and the same problem  :-(

However if I swap the d-link gig switch for my old d-link 100mb switch then it works fine. Less than ideal I know.

I had a similar problem until a day or two ago.  I'm not sure which of these 2 solutions fixed it, but here's what I did before it started working:

Go to control panel>administrative services>services.  Scroll down the list and make sure UPnP is running.
Depending on your software firewall, you may have to manually open the ports that media extender needs to connect.

Hope this helps.

try opening media connect on your pc, click settings, where it says firewall click reset. this worked for me after trying everything you are describing.

I can't connect either.  I even tried turning my firewall off.  My PC detects the 360 and puts in in the WMC list of allowed devices, and my 360 can detect the pc, but it can't connect to it.  I had it working at home a few weeks ago.  I'm out of ideas.

I had the same problem. After I installed the .Net Framework 1.1 it still did the same thing. I then installed the .Net Framework 2.0 and the error message goes away, but now when I run the XboxXPSP2-ENU.exe it gets to the end of the extracting and goes away. Anyone figure this out?

The solution for me was to uninstall/reinstall Media Connect
