Slow Ftp Transfer To Xbmc?
« on: December 19, 2004, 07:29:00 AM »

Hi

When I transfer files to the xbmc map in my xbox the speed is about 350kb/s - when it sould be around 5-6mb/s!

The wierdest thing is that when I transfer files to any other place (or map) in the xbox it's normal speed... it's just in the xbmc mapp there's this slow sucky speed.

The big problem is when I'm accessing my PC through xbmc I can't stream anything because of the slow speed.... this is really annoying.

Anyone who has any idea of what this could be?

This case = using a stock hdd

Stock hdd´s are slow as h*ll.

Max speed i got from E:\ is 4.500kb/s and from F:\ ~700kb/s

Not much we can do about the hardware.....

If you use a BIG hdd, or if that is what you mean by standard, check so you are in 100mb full duplex mode.

Yellow button in homescreen->system info

Stock hdd?

A friend of mine also has standard HDD in his box and has no problems what so ever...

Here's the thing:

E:\apps

In to that folder I can upload full speed, but in E:\apps\xbmc I can only upload and stream around 3-400kb/s. It's like it was something special with that folder??

It's still on the same partition... strange as hell.

Edit: By standard I mean the hdd that is in the xbox when you buy it. Sorry if I aren't clear enough smile.gif. And yes it's full duplex as far as I'm concerned...

And I really appreciate all the help I can get!

This is Called a "Stock HDD", the harddrive that came with the xbox. What harddrive did you think we was referring to?  <

But still, as it is a stock hdd, wouldn't the speed be slow when I transfer to other folders then xbmc also?

Becaus the speed is normal as I said earlier when I transfer files to any other folder.

That only the xbmc folder is slow is very strange...

But what is it that you upload to the xbmc folder anyway?

Only "XBMC" should be in it....  <

Yeah it's really bugging me like nothing else...

The thing is that I first noticed it when the streaming was awfully slow. I couldn't nearly stream anything from my PC. Then I remembered how slow the transfer speed was when I from the beginning transfered the XBMC program to "E:\apps".

So, I tried to transfer anything just to see if the speed still was that slow.... and at that point I noticed that the transfer speed was slow only in the xbmc folder and not in to any other folder.

Gee... I can't describe how thankfull I'd be if someone had any idea... or just a theory smile.gif.  <

Bahh, alot of small files takes longer to transfer then few large once...

Transferred 978 files totaling 52,91 MB in 02:22 (55,35 KBps)

Transferred 1 file totaling 74,72 MB in 15,42 (5 032,17 KBps) (to e:\apps)

Transferred 1 file totaling 74,72 MB in 10,77 (7 179,23 KBps) (to e:\apps\xbmc)

I still say stock hdd issue or netowork problems.
